Well, that was fast. Deadline is reporting Alex Baldwin has now dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.
“I’m sure there are 25 guys who can play that part,” the actor told USA Today

Alec Baldwin is just the latest actor to join DC Films/Warner Bros. upcoming Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix, THR reports. He is set to play Thomas Wayne, best known as the father of Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Here’s the interesting part though. Thomas Wayne’s character description describes a radical departure from the comic source material. Behold:
Sources say the script paints Thomas Wayne as a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump.
Baldwin, of course, is no stranger to playing characters similar to Trump, as he has portrayed the current President of the United States over the last couple seasons of SNL. Hopefully, he will be able to hone in on the Trump persona a bit more seriously. It will be interesting to see just what Baldwin’s Wayne looks like whenever we receive our first look at this film.
Previous actors to join the film include Robert De Niro, Mark Maron, and Zazie Beetz. With Joker being influenced by films like Taxi Driver, this film will hopefully be a unique take on the Clown Prince of Crime that is worth watching.
Joker hits theaters October 4, 2019.
