‘Birds of Prey’ Gains 2020 Release Date; Actresses Cast for Black Canary and Huntress; Ewan McGregor Wanted for Villain

A whole bunch of news has been dropping concerning the first DCEU project out of the gate for 2020: Birds of Prey.

The Wrap has confirmed that Warner Bros. has given Birds of Prey a February 7, 2020 release date. Right now, it is set to open up against Peter Rabbit 2 and will have the theaters to itself for a week before Bond 25 arrives on the 14th.

Jurnee Smollett-Bell

Now on to the juicy casting updates. Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane) has been cast as Huntress, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Underground) has been cast as Black Canary. That just leaves detective Renee Montoya left to cast, with Justina Machado (One Day at a Time) and Roberta Colindrez (Birdman) reportedly in the running. Batgirl is not expected to appear in the film (lame), and Margot Robbie reprises her role as Harley Quinn.

Finally, Ewan McGregor and Sharlto Copley are the top two choices by the studio to play the villain of the film, which rumors peg will be the Black Mask. Apparently, Sam Rockwell has passed on the role.

Who do you want to see play the villain? What do you think of the casting so far? Are you excited that this is moving forward?
