Paramount has released the first trailer for Dora and the Lost City of Gold, the live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon‘s educational children’s show Dora the Explorer. And you know what, it doesn’t look half bad.
I am digging Dora’s high-energy excitement and the fact the film is using her classmates to act as our voice of reason. “Oh look guys, Dora brought a knife on the field trip” moment is actually pretty funny. I think this will be extremely cheesy and childish in places, but Moner looks like she has the charisma to make Dora the Explorer likeable to audiences over the age of six.
Synopsis: Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora (Isabela Moner) for her most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.
Dora and the Lost City of Gold hits theaters August 2, 2019.
