Everything & Nothing: Don’t Die Hard From Too Much Eggnog This Weekend (Extended Holiday Edition)

You guys and gals know the drill; “Everything & Nothing” is a weekend open post where anything goes. Okay, maybe not anything; but it’s a place to chat about stuff in the reel and real world.

Christmas is right around the corner! Have a happy holidays from the FilmExodus Community!

THE WEEKEND OPEN POST SHALL NOW COMMENCE

Because the news is hitting slower now that 2017 is coming to a close, we’ve decided to keep the weekend post active for the remainder of 2017. Enjoy Exiles!

And make sure to trash (or love) Bright over on the LTA page for it!

  • Jooshua

Yeah I know but I was thinking of a spin-off. I don’t think Lanie wanted to leave and she probably would’ve been down for an all female spin-off.

  • Lanie left along with Beckett after season 8. Both actresses would have been absent from s9

  • Jooshua

TOTALLY agree. Her and Hailey running the P.I. agency that Castle opened would’ve been amazing. Maybe throw in Tori Ellis, the precinct’s tech expert who appeared briefly, and Lanie. Could have been bad-ass.

  • I’d rather have seen an Alexis P.I. spinoff with Castle make occasional guest appearances. Really started to like Alexis in season 8

  • Jooshua

Well yeah THAT was terrible.. but for them to leave behind Alexis? I just feel like she would hold resentment towards Beckett for her dad ever having met her because their deaths would’ve ultimately been because of Castle getting involved with her mother’s murder. I just don’t like the death idea. It’s too much of a bummer for a show that was mostly fun and adventurous.

  • I would have been happier. They’re together in love even in death. Them bleeding out holding hands and then cutting to their future was imo terrible. As a fan I’d rather see them die but be together when it happens.

  • Jooshua

It doesn’t work in that sense but Stana Katic clearly wanted to leave the show. I feel like the extreme fan base was already pissed in general. They had them separate just to make it so Fillion and Katic would share less screen time. They explained away his disappearance like it was nothing then backtracked. It was pretty difficult to watch. And I can’t imagine they would have been happier watching them die together. Season 8 was just a horrible mess lol.

  • King Alvarez

Because it was long and kinda slow. The performances and story were great. Unlike BR2049 which was long and kinda slow, I could rewatch that over and over.

  • Thanks

  • Thanks!

  • TheDeadFellow
  • Sailor Monsoon

You broke the rule i just made!

  • TheDeadFellow

    NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

  • Sailor Monsoon

[Do not read this reply till Monday]
    Last month!
Last month was like a year ago!

  • TheDeadFellow

Gee, didn’t the article I write on him last month imply anything to you?

  • Sailor Monsoon

You uh, you really love that Ridley Scott.

  • TheDeadFellow

Saw All The Money In The World yesterday. It was fucking good. Probably Scott’s best film this decade. Expect to see this baby on my list.

Also went on a buying spree that included a steelbook of Valerian, Kong Skull Island and Atomic Blonde.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Get vimeo
    Rent world of tomorrow 2
    Watch it

  • Sailor Monsoon

    This is it.
    You’re in the weekend thread

  • Is there a new Everything or Nothing for this weekend?

I saw Last Jedi in IMAX today.
Loved it the second time as much as the first

  • Happy birthday

  • Have a happy Birthday Jack

  • More like the 4K ads for iTunes.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Happy birthday my friend.
Go out and do something reckless

  • Well I didn’t get a promotion at work, but today is my birthday. So I’m going to remain positive as I set out to the casino for our final concert of 2017. REO Speedwagon and Styx. Tomorrow a quick stop in Dallas to catch up with old high school friends.

  • Indianamcclain

Looks like someone ran into The Shape of Water ad.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

It was just one of those movies that you watch and you know you’ll never watch it again. Didn’t appeal enough to me for repeat viewings.

  • Indianamcclain

It’s the best film about slavery that I’ve ever seen. I never truly understood the hardships that slaves went through until I saw that film.

  • Does anyone else get annoyed at Rotten Tomatoes full page ads on mobile? You almost always click the ad when trying to hit the x

  • Sailor Monsoon

It’s my second favorite film of the year

  • I only bought one movie. That’s got to be a record!

  • I still need to watch that one.

  • Indianamcclain

People say that about 12 Years A Slave, and yet I’ve seen that film multiple times. Idk what that says about me.

  • As your sponsor… ah, fuck it.

  • Oh cool, I can finally see what all the fuss is about. Thanks!

  • Indianamcclain

I personally think they were killed. The speech that Hunnam’s character tells his son makes it bittersweet.

  • I just bought it. It better amaze me.

  • True but that ending is most likely what happened. I would have rather they left it more open ended. (The compass kind of did). I didn’t expect them to be like “probably died by Indians” when there’s no hard evidence what happened to Fawcett

  • Indianamcclain

    It’s a bit of a downer.

  • Why?

  • What’s wrong with the ending?

  • TheDeadFellow

    A masterclass movie.

  • Sailor Monsoon

I cannot wait to watch it again

  • Kemosabe 🦇

I watched it. I don’t ever plan to watch it again.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Agreed

  • Sailor Monsoon

Brawl in cell block 99 hits Amazon prime the 31st
    Watch that shit

  • Kemosabe 🦇

I want to see him in more stuff.

  • Indianamcclain

There are two big ones that I won’t be able to see until January 11th.

  • Indianamcclain

    Because of the ending?

  • Indianamcclain

Charlie Hunnam really surprised me with that film. He’s awesome in it.

  • Eh, my opinion ain’t that important.

  • King Alvarez

Totally. Defiance would be on that list too.

  • TBH I feel that way for a lot of dramas. Defiance is another one.

  • Time for a repost in that section!

  • King Alvarez

It was. I just don’t know if I would ever watch it again.

  • Lost City of Z is very good.

  • Ah Shia Labeauf

  • Sailor Monsoon

Comic book men is still on?
    That’s interesting

  • I’m off of work this week. Still at home. Enjoying every minute of it.

Catching up on Happy! And Comic Book Men.

  • TheDeadFellow

Life was being a bitch and holding me hostage around the time it came out. Now it isn’t and I can remedy that.

  • Do it man!

  • Kemosabe 🦇
  • NEVER! … but maybe we can do our own spin-off bits or something. I actually have a new segment in the works (it’s been in the works for months now, but that’s besides the point)!

  • Gonna have to go solo. “Basement Brother”

  • And I had some doozies since our last video… I’ll see what I can do.

  • DAMMIT MIKE THATS MY FAVORITE SEGMENT!

    Time stamps helped.

  • Thanks! I did think the time-stamps could make the long videos more manageable, but Mike wants to stick to the review. I like our tangents, so we’ll keep developing it. I guess what I’m saying is that segments like Kraigslist’s Kookie Kasual Enkounters will be MIA for the time being.

  • I liked the episode! Keep posting them!

  • Because we hated that episode, haha. The next video is much shorter.

I’ve actually built a tolerance to the hot sauce 💪🔥(or at least it’s not nearly as bad when you keep it off your lips)…

  • O.C. fo sho

  • @bb_ben:disqus you forgot to let us know about your latest BB podcast!
    https://youtu.be/msTQ9ylKFUo

You recover from the hot sauce? And nice new graphics!

  • TheDeadFellow

Sometime in January. Would like to see All The Money In The World, Shape of Water and Blade Runner 2049 before it’s finalized. I might also do a couple of extra pages in the same article talking about films that didn’t make the cut, some of my worst of and personal favorite performances/underrated films, etc.

  • TheGreenMalice

I really liked this year’s Doctor Who X-Mas special. Anything that pisses fanboys off, is OK in my book.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    January 1st.
Some people could still realistically see 8 more films by the end of the year.

  • When are people gonna start posting their Top 10 lists?

  • I think instead of that tacked on ending, Castle and Beckett should have held hands as they slowly died with that voiceover going over top of that. “Always” as in I’ll love you in death. I think that’d be a much better ending than what we got.

Yours I don’t feel would have worked bc they made Castle and Beckett this sort of love force that it doesn’t work for one to leave the other apart. We know that if Castle found out he’d be pissed and so would the Extreme fan base. The coma option was really there only choice.

  • Kemosabe 🦇
  • HEEEEESSSSSSSSSS BAAAAAACCCCCKKKKKK!

  • I’m doing a play on that unproduced screenplay Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian.

  • Bright felt 5 hours long. I was expecting bad, but not boring. I still like the concept, though, and the leads have potential, so hopefully the sequel has new showrunners.

  • J-Mart

Man I wish I could get a PS4, or a Switch or a new phone.
    I really need a job.
    Have fun with the PS4!

  • J-Mart

I love Castle and ABC should of gave the show a final season instead of cancelling it for a show that got cancelled the next season.
It deserves a proper ending and it’s a shame we didn’t get one. 🙁

  • J-Mart

Phantom Thread is pretty messed up and the message of the film is pretty unsettling.
    The Post is great.

  • J-Mart
  • J-Mart

I look like most of the boys from IT and Stranger Things and I love it.
    Beep Beep Richie!

  • Merry Christmas Joshua! That set looks amazing. All the best to you and your Mom. Tell her I said Merry Christmas!

  • TheDeadFellow

Holy shit, you’re back. And goddamn, you look like Richie from IT.

  • J-Mart

Happy Holidays and hope you got everything you wanted and had a great Christmas with your friends and family! 🙂

Even though I didn’t get everything I want for Christmas. I did get one gift that I built immediately after opening since I love Legos! Took me all day but man was it worth it. It’s not perfect but I think it looks amazing! I hope one day I get to go to NYC. Seems like a very fun place!

It’s the Lego NYC Architecture set!

Can you name all the famous NYC buildings and monuments?

Now that Christmas is over it’s time to prepare for New Year’s Eve.

For me it’s sparkling grape juice, stay up til midnight, party! Watch the fireworks as we leave 2017 and enter a brand new year full of hope, great movies and many more fantastic things.

Let’s leave 2017 behind and have a fantastic year in 2018!

Hope all you exiles have a great New Year’s Eve and a have an amazing holiday season!

Hope you and your families are having a happy, merry, jolly holiday season.

What did you get for Christmas? Also hope you ate some great food.

    🙂

  • Sailor Monsoon

I had to spend a quarter of my Christmas writing an article. You’re welcome you sons of bitches

  • Indianamcclain

The Real Ghostbusters has a clever episode where the Ghostbusters go back in time, and bust one of the ghosts from A Christmas Carol.

  • Tales from the Crypt, “And All Through the House.”

  • TheDeadFellow

“The Strike” from Seinfeld and Billy & Mandy Save Christmas.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

Is that the one with Sam Kinison? I loved Married with Children.

  • Sailor Monsoon

The krampus episode of Venture Bros or the Christmas episode of Black Mirror.

  • Married with Children

  • Merry Christmas

  • Sailor Monsoon

That’s not the first time my prick has been called lucky

  • Jooshua

What’s your favorite Christmas episode of a TV show? I think mine is either A Very Supernatural Christmas from Supernatural or any Chrismukkah episode of The O.C.

  • Indianamcclain

I also want to see The Post, and Phantom Thread, but they won’t be in my neck of the woods until the 11th.

  • Jooshua

Spoilers for Castle and the Mel Gibson movie Conspiracy Theory below…

..I think the season 9 premiere should have ended with Castle at Beckett’s grave and it pans away to a dark SUV where Beckett is sitting in the back with some government agency having faked her death to protect Castle and the people close to her as she takes down LokSat from the shadows. It would have explained her absence for the whole season in a really awesome way.

  • TheDeadFellow

Oh, I hate you right now lol. It’s actually playing at the theater I’m seeing Money at (a Regal, to be precise) buuuuuut I’m holding out on it expanding to more screens over the coming weeks due to the awards attention it’s been getting.

How odd. Money is opening a lot at theaters around here. Surprised to hear that.

  • Indianamcclain

Already saw The Shape of Water, it’s awesome. I do want to see All The Money in the World whenever it comes to my neck of the woods.

  • TheDeadFellow

    You’re a lucky prick.

  • Sailor Monsoon

I saw the Shape of water.
    I liked it a lot

  • TheDeadFellow

Think you might checkout Shape of Water and All The Money In The World later this week? Seeing the latter this Thursday hopefully.

  • TheDeadFellow

Show mum Colossal and IT today. She dug the hell out of both greatly, especially the former. Super happy that she did.

  • Indianamcclain

I hate that the set doesn’t come with an Episode Guide.

  • Indianamcclain

    Checking out Molly’s Game tonight

  • 🎅Poppity🌟

Merry Christmas to you! Almost the 26th here but it still counts! LOL

  • 🎅Poppity🌟

Merry Christmas, Duke! Are you really in Hawaii? 🙂
And there is no egg nog here, sadly. I can only dream of it!

  • Lol spot on.

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS TO THE BEST COMMUNITY ON THE INTERWEBS!

  • Hahaha glad you dig. : )

  • Sailor Monsoon

Yeah my Amazon giftcard was gone immediately

  • Cap_N_Jack

    Merry Christmas everybody.

  • TheDeadFellow

I got an Amazon gift card and the box set for Apes Trilogy on Blu. It’s a pretty nice collection. Also came with a poster/timeline for the films!

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Did i!
    Off course!

  • Sailor Monsoon

It’s the only 2017 film that i didn’t already own.
Because blade runner, brawl in cellblock 99 and IT ain’t out yet

  • Sailor Monsoon

It’s a perfect show with an amazing ending

  • Sailor Monsoon

    It’s adorable

  • Did you think I was Peter?

  • TheDeadFellow

You got Good Time? Freakin’ sweet ma dude.

  • TheDeadFellow

I FUCKING LOVE THE GREEN WRITING ON THE WEBSITE HOLY SHIT

  • TheDeadFellow

    My eyes.

  • I wish I could convince everyone that gift cards are easy and perfect.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

I want to get that. I haven’t seen a lot of that show, but I’ve seen enough to want it all.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Yes sir

  • Kemosabe 🦇

Nice. Is that a complete set of Samurai Jack?

  • Sailor Monsoon

    He is.
Fame destroyed that poor childs career

  • He cray cray.

  • Sailor Monsoon

I feel bad for him but he’s a fucking terrible actor

  • Sailor Monsoon

Boomer playing B-ball with some decapitated heads while Sinbad raps poorly

  • Do want.

  • Good question. I forgot that kid was even in anything besides a Star War.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

It’s basically a more violent version of Robocop, but with more swearing. And it’s set during Christmas. The streets run red with tinsel…and the blood of Turbo Man’s victims.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Good Time
And the Georges Meliés collection vol. 2

  • What’re the titles between Simba and Jack?

  • Sailor Monsoon

How the fuck did that kid beat Michael Angarano for the role of lil baby vader?

  • Sailor Monsoon
  • Sailor Monsoon

    I been missing out

  • Kemosabe 🦇

Didn’t notice anything actually. I don’t think much got added.

  • Yessir. Any noticeable difference?

  • “It’s Turbo Time, motherfuckers!”

  • Kemosabe 🦇

Yeah it’s Rated R. Turbo Man kills a bunch of people. Real violent stuff.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

I watched the extended version. Is that it?

  • Sailor Monsoon

    There’s a directors cut?

  • All is calm, all is blah.

  • I know what you mean about their delivery. Suave? Old-fashioned? Anyway, you watch the JATW director’s cut?

  • Sailor Monsoon

    I’m already here

  • Kemosabe 🦇

    DRACULA CLUB!!! Christmas Edition.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

Rewatched Jingle All The Way and it still rocks. It’s always nice seeing Phil Hartman again. I was actually a little struck how much he reminded me of Stephen Colbert. Something in the delivery. Maybe that’s just me.

    Rocket League.

  • Well I’m going to go offline for Christmas now.

Have a Merry Christmas Exiles. To each and every one of you all, you guys rock. And merry Christmas Peter Sciretta, because if you hadn’t gone to Facebook comments I wouldn’t know these people as well as I do now.

Enjoy your turkey and egg nog!

    See you in 2018!

  • Overview is up. Go read it ya filthy animals.

  • “HO HO HOE!!!” – J-Mart if we roasted any movie with Santa in it. Miss you too bud, see you in 2018!

  • GTA V?

  • ResonanceCascade

I’ve seen the stuff you’re talking about. Twitter and Reddit discussions about the movie are a disaster, even by twitter and reddit standards.

There are totally valid reasons not to like it, but the organized hate campaign is hysterical.

  • TheDeadFellow

Whoops. Looks like I mixed my comment and your response into some freakish, nonsensical response. Sorry.

  • William Dhalgren

Is it worth what? I guess I am not sure what you mean.

  • TheDeadFellow

Is it worth having people trying make bizarre conspiracy theories that critics are being payed off by Disney to give this film good press while giving other movies like Bright and Justice League bad reviews? Or the one damn petition that tried to have the movie removed from canon?

That’s the hatred I’m talking about.

  • William Dhalgren

It means it has the “correct” politics for the moment.

  • William Dhalgren

I’m trying to muster the will to write something about it, but I don’t know if I will. The issues people are having with it are legitimate. If you loved it, that’s awesome. I wish I did. But there are definitely valid reasons to dislike this film.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

I have two questions for you. Do you like cars? And do you like soccer? Because if the answer to both of those questions is yes, I think I might know a game you would like.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

    Persuasive.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

Merry Christmas, everyone! And a very special Merry Christmas to the one and only @joshuamartyniouk:disqus! Miss you, pal, wherever you are! You and your excessive exclamation points!

  • Both need to write MORE OF THIS!

  • I’ll be watching it tomorrow or Boxing Day hopefully so I’ll comment.

  • TheDeadFellow

    I’LL GET THE POLE!

  • Brilliant. I thought it was Alex Buttera of Baman and Piderman fame.

  • It was fun. Went to an art studio and hung out with some cool local people. James Takeo and Adam Kieswetter. Both have written for the site.

  • I really enjoyed it. Much better than the TFA

  • TheDeadFellow

Merry Christmas, Exiles! Hope ya’ll have yourself a good time.

  • TheDeadFellow

    Did you survive?

  • TheDeadFellow

Fucking loved it too. It’s easily going to be in my top five of the year. The hatred it’s getting is insane.

  • Indianamcclain

Yeah, I just got an e-mail about it shutting down. You’ll only be able to access your movies through Vudu.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

I watched it when it first came on and liked it. I fell behind at some point in season 1. I should binge that.

  • William Dhalgren

    Heeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllppppppppppppppp meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, guuuuuuuuyyyyyyyyyyyyssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Castle is my jam! Let’s hear it!

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Yes.
I think paul rudd is trying to be good but giamatti is just sour.
    It’s just a dour film

  • Sailor Monsoon

I had no idea that was still on.
I mix that up with bones in my head.

  • Weren’t the characters all nasty, but without hearts of gold?

  • Sailor Monsoon

    I disliked it immensely

  • Sailor Monsoon

    It’s a playable movie.
So that might be your bag.
Doom is 100% action the entire way

  • Jooshua

I have so many movies and TV shows that I want to watch that I’m trying to train my brain to…. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/ee22af2c403c8cc57e54a968968cd7f657c3802ae3f2a7c07a8e87e6d40924ae.png

  • I have… but I remember nothing about it.

  • Jooshua

Blink twice if you are in danger..

..speaking of all is bright.. have you seen All Is Bright?

  • All is calm, all is bright…

  • Jooshua

Who watched Castle around here? I feel like it’s been mentioned by numerous people and I just had a dope idea for the season 9 premiere.. that I may have mentioned before but I’m not sure…

  • Jooshua

It’s been three… and we haven’t heard from either of you…

What a bright idea this was..

  • I think so, but all my Ultraviolet accounts are connected now. They’re shutting down, right? Or are they rebranded as that Movies Anywhere?

  • Indianamcclain

    Anybody got a Flixster account?

  • Kemosabe 🦇

    Your mom sounds cool.

  • Indianamcclain

I feel the same way. I saw articles claiming it was “bold”. I thought that meant that maybe they would take Rey in a new direction that we hadn’t seen before, but I was wrong.

  • Indianamcclain

I have mixed feelings on it, but I did like it more than Force Awakens and Rogue One.

  • ResonanceCascade

    That’s a good pull

  • I mean Weinstein always rocked a five o clock shadow tho and looks like the bad corporate guy from Space Jam.

I think it’s because I don’t like half the actors getting revealed so I go “makes sense” due to my already hatred for them.

  • William Dhalgren
  • William Dhalgren

If we don’t hear from you in an hour and a half, we’re coming in to get you.

  • Jooshua

I don’t actually like Alien that much either. Aside from the amazingness that is Sigourney Weaver. I think it’s because my mom would watch the first three on repeat when I was a kid and I grew tired of it.

  • Jooshua

I just saw it and I thought it was both awesome and disappointing. The only reason I was disappointed is because there were so many articles about how it changed Star Wars forever and I just didn’t feel that way after I watched it. It was great though and I did enjoy it.

  • William Dhalgren

I appreciate the recs, man, but I am not a fan of games like that where there are tons of cut scenes and stuff. I like to get right into the game play. I have a limited attention span, brother.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

I’m going to watch Bright. Pray for me.

  • 🎅Poppity🌟

I would fight but I hate Star Wars. 😉

Can’t wait to read the AFI and I’ll be posting quite a bit on that thread, I’m sure! I love that film! Happy Holidays, Soupy! See ya soon and take care! 😀

I watched The Last Jedi again and it’s by far the best modern Star War. Fight me.

  • (do) all the people… look like they would be these sort of creeps?

I suppose. But hindsight is 20/20? Or something? I’m having a hard time thinking of actors I would be surprised by.

    I guess Tom Hanks.

  • William Dhalgren

    Merry Christmas, Exiles.

  • William Dhalgren

    That’s not weird. Merry Christmas!

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Merry Xmas mother bitches

  • DryButSoupy

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everybody. I’ll be making the holiday rounds to family and friends the next couple of days and won’t have many opportunities to be on the interwebs. AFI is done and scheduled to post.

    Have a good one, y’all.

  • Damn straight it’s amazing!

  • Debatable.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

    My man!

  • Sailor Monsoon

Until dawn is light on gameplay but heavy on story.
It’s about 5-6 hours and all you do is walk around, look at stuff occasionally and then make huge decisions.
It’s a playable slasher film essentially and the decisions you make completely alter the film.
    It’s pretty fucking amazing.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Everyone looks creepy in retrospect

  • Sailor Monsoon

I forgot there’s that many films called life.
Because there’s another one that came out last year about James Dean

  • Sailor Monsoon

It’s just faster to go to Google

  • Sailor Monsoon

I actually forced myself to be a non Dracula today

  • DryButSoupy

I found Life to be yet another sup-par entry in Eddie Murphy’s post-Beverly Hills Cop 2 filmography. The inclusion of Martin Lawrence didn’t help.

  • DryButSoupy

My new favorite part of the trilogy.

  • It definitely seems like he wouldn’t have a career without his fathers help. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/93b2069b8cb00cb4fd9ff893461ac7f6557cfdd5c219206a74fb6c514bd9ff14.jpg
Also, is it just me or is all the people who are getting allegations look like they would be these sort of creeps? Landis, Weinstein, TJ Miller, Spacey?

  • He looks, talks, and apparently acts like a douchebag, but he created discussion wherever he went. He’s also self-deprecating, but I can’t defend him anymore if whatever allegations are true.

  • I watched a Seinfeld marathon for a few hours so I did!

  • Dudddeee did you see if FEx already had some posters in our media archives? All you got to do is search key words related to the movies title to see

  • Someone actually likes this guy?!?

  • No qualifications that classify it as that?

  • TheDeadFellow

It’s a movie that bounces between quirk comedy, drug abuse drama and monster movie, sometimes all within the same scene. It’s definitely not for everyone but I’d say it’s definitely a unique movie.

  • *blank stare*

Sorry to make this weird guys, but I just want to thank everyone for a wonderful six months and I hope to have many more…six monthses…that are also wonderful.
    With you guys.

    On the site.
    That we made.

Merry Christmas and I’ll catch y’all in the new year!

  • I enjoyed it, despite the liberties they took from the board game.

  • Indianamcclain

I can’t remember where I got it from. I used it for a couple texts last year.

  • I like Max Landis, and this is disappointing.

  • Fell asleep before midnight for once, then promptly woke up at 1:30am. Can’t quit dat Dracula Lyfe.

  • Colossal really rubbed me the wrong way. But I guess I was expecting a comedy.

  • This is great! Do you know the source?

  • Kemosabe 🦇

    “eclectic”

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Duke has eclectic taste

  • Kemosabe 🦇

    Unbelievable.

  • Sailor Monsoon
  • Kemosabe 🦇

Who the fuck doesn’t like Alien?

  • Sailor Monsoon

Took me 40 minutes to download all the posters for my end of the year mega movie blowout

  • Sailor Monsoon

    I liked the cast.

  • Indianamcclain

It is derivative, but the execution saves it for me.

  • Sailor Monsoon

I can definitely see why people would dig it and there’s parts of it i really like but it’s far too derivative for me to enjoy.
But i know duke doesn’t like alien, so i think he’ll dig it

  • Indianamcclain
  • Indianamcclain

Unfortunately my name isn’t Duke, but I liked Life quite a bit. I’m aware that it is essentially a ripoff of Alien, and some people have completely written the whole film off because of that. However, I thought it was well executed and kept me on the edge of my seat. One of the more pleasant surprises of the year for me.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

I hope everyone had a Happy Festivus!

  • Kemosabe 🦇

I completely forgot about Colossal. I need to watch that.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    A movie duke likes.

  • What is a “Duke movie”?

  • Sailor Monsoon

    I feel like it’s a duke movie

  • Uh no and should I? Why are you wondering?

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Duke
Have you seen life and did you like it?

  • Sailor Monsoon
  • Sailor Monsoon

    Both wolfensteins

  • I feel the same way.

  • TheDeadFellow

Mum and I watched Daddy’s Home today on HULU. I have zero idea as to what batshit insanity I just watched. We also viewed Skull Island, which she dug the absolute fuck out of.

Tomorrow, after we spend the day at her BF’s house, we’re gonna head home and I’m showing her Colossal. Really excited about doing that.

  • TheDeadFellow

I wish this happened so much,

  • TheDeadFellow

Wolfenstein and DOOM. Get them. You will be a happy person.

  • TheDeadFellow

Max Landis is an obnoxious douchebag and a bad writer, so this isn’t surprising at all. Can’t stand the fucker.

  • I’m reading the twitter rants. Favorite (that isn’t connected to his allegations) is “I love how Matt landis rants about how bad every movie is when he’s incapable of writing a good one”

  • William Dhalgren

    Pass the popcorn, Duke.

  • William Dhalgren

    Can’t make me.

  • William Dhalgren

I’m not a very savvy gamer.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Get overwatch

  • Max Landis has sexual allegations against him now. This one doesn’t seem shocking.

  • sayeth whaaaat.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

They should all be Nic Cage imo.

  • William Dhalgren

I tried a couple Uncharted games for PS3 and I think Arkham City. Neither made much of an impression. Haven’t heard of the other.

  • You need Uncharted, Until Dawn, and Batman Arkham Knight. Those are the three essentials. (ie, the only games I’ve bothered to finish)

  • William Dhalgren

    Dear god.

  • William Dhalgren

Got myself a PS4 for Chrimmus. Playing Battlefront 2 right now. Here’s to a big ol time suck!

  • Indianamcclain

I don’t mind the CG on Clu since he is a video game character, but it does bother me when they use it on Flynn in flashbacks.

  • King Alvarez

After watching the original, I found myself bored by Nolan’s. Easily my least favorite movie of his.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Yes

  • 🎅Poppity🌟

Came across this picture and thought of @BB_Ben:disqus for some reason. 😉

    https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/6f1eb4f3a8b64e13902be81e30f7bdf6fd51068c07c2b5f4a65657a237b4f108.jpg

  • 🎅Poppity🌟
  • Sailor Monsoon

    “The weekend is dead”
Monsoon releases part of his animation list anyways.
    Genius.

  • *blank stare*

Creep 2 was fantastic. I take back a bunch of what I said about the original; there’s genius going on there.

  • Ooo that’s like a negative for me.

  • DryButSoupy

Definitely worth it. I remember all the love that was heaped on it when it came out. It wasn’t all hype. The soundtrack is a lot of 80s influenced synth. It took me a while to realize that it was set in the present day. Ron Pearlman is in it…that’s almost always a plus.

  • Not sure, love the Joker but just something when watching doesn’t excite me anymore. It was once like my 5th favorite movie and now it might still be in the Top 25

  • Oh hush.

  • Agreed! HISHE is my favorite and Honest Trailers comes in second. CinemaSins got way to full of themselves and really lost something when there videos went from 5 minutes to 25 minutes.

  • Cuz more clicks!

    Sounds awesome!

  • William Dhalgren

I can’t sit to rewatch it, but I also though it was too long.

  • William Dhalgren

I personally love that film. CGI bridges is an unfortunate artifact that I feel is the one weak link in an otherwise aesthetic masterpiece.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    I’ve been meaning to
Its just never on Netflix when i want to watch it

  • Indianamcclain

Don’t think HISHE, or Honest Trailers are bad, I just grew tired of them.

  • TheGreenMalice

You should really watch A Serious Man. I loved it.

  • TheGreenMalice

    Same.

  • Sailor Monsoon

Instead of doing one end of the year wrap up, I’m going to break it up into multiple parts.
    Movies
    Games
Miscellaneous (which will be favorite movie moments, game moments, film discoveries)
    Cuz lists

  • Cap_N_Jack

I’ve only seen it once so far but the first film was meandering and slow-paced so it felt on point. Also, it was so gorgeous and involving, I really didn’t care.

  • Indianamcclain

I started to feel the length around the third viewing.

  • Cap_N_Jack

Agreed. Creed I liked a lot though I didn’t connect with it like I did Rocky, but for some reason Blade Runner 2049 worked for me on just about every level. I had family who complained about it being too long but I probably could have sat for another thirty minutes of film without noticing.

  • Cap_N_Jack

Man, over the years I have warmed up to How It Should Have Ended and Honest Movie Trailers. I think generally both of those come from a place of love for film and have some genuinely great laughs from time to time. I really, really hate Cinemasins though.

  • Indianamcclain

I think Blade Runner 2049, and Creed have been the best of these “Legacy Sequels”.

  • Cap_N_Jack

Never watched that one. Seems like the trajectory of brining back old stars to franchise reboots is pretty much the same all around. They’ve always been in hiding or exile and gotten cynical. See too, Blade Runner 2049

  • Cap_N_Jack

I mean, that’s a lot of stories. I assumed Joker left immediately after dropping her out the window, meaning there’d be very little chance of still catching him. The movie jam packed and there are a few questions of continuity here (and in the oft-discussed ‘how does gordon come to his number of dead at the end’ scene) but it’s not enough to hurt my enjoyment of it much at all.

  • Indianamcclain

Rewatching Tron: Legacy on TBS. Flynn kinda reminds me of Luke in The Last Jedi, they even look the same.

Personally, I don’t think Olivia Wilde’s a great acctres but I like her in this film.

I’m surprised that Flynn’s awesome LED robe had never been available to purchase.

  • Cap_N_Jack

    Following’s pretty great.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Go watch more films!

  • Sailor Monsoon

    A solid thriller

  • Indianamcclain

    You know who

  • Kemosabe 🦇

Oh shit, Ultimate Beastmaster season 2 is out, guys!

  • Kemosabe 🦇

I’ve wondered why Batman just didn’t go back upstairs. Maybe the bad guys paraglided away so he wasn’t able to catch them.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

    Who run Bartertown?

  • Indianamcclain

Same here. I know Nolan doesn’t release deleted scenes, but I’d like to see the scene where the Joker leaves Bruce’s Penthouse.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

    Word.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

Maybe you should roast it. Seems right up your alley.

  • Sailor Monsoon

The cat who directed sky captain and the world of tomorrow pitched a spirit film
    And a John Carter film
    But nothing

  • Cap_N_Jack

Craziness. I still want to see Darren Aranofsky’s version of The Wolverine. And Brad Bird’s The Spirit for that matter.

  • Cap_N_Jack

    Yeah, probably.

  • Sailor Monsoon

Columbus and Darabont also wrote scripts

  • Sailor Monsoon

He’s writing for the wrong medium
He should be writing an animated tv show

  • Cap_N_Jack

Heh, yeah, I remember watching that. But he actually was courted by Spielberg to write the fourth film.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    He did write one
    And it’s better than 4

  • Cap_N_Jack

I think his story is a mess, but you can’t argue that there’s a stoner brilliance to David Wong’s writing.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    1. That’s Edgar Wright’s favorite film.
    2. I wrote a couple of articles for cracked and pitched a whole bunch of ideas (this was a billion years ago) and i had a short correspondence with David Wong.
    Cool guy

  • Cap_N_Jack

Remember when M Night Shyamalan was rumored to be directing and/or writing an Indiana Jones film? Bad times.

  • Sailor Monsoon

Remember when everyone thought taylor lautner was rumored to get recast in twilight because he wasn’t ripped enough?
    Times.

  • Cap_N_Jack

    Random Friday Night thoughts:

–Raising Arizona is not my favorite Coen Brothers film (their comedies never are) but it was still a lot of fun and, as per usual, sort of thought provoking

–Starting a reread of John Dies at the End. Equal parts funny and chilling, as I remember.

–Brought home a stack of comics from the library, so far, haven’t made it more than two issues into any of them (except one which was still mediocre). Have only read a couple of books I liked much this year.

  • Cap_N_Jack

Remember when people thought Tom Hardy was playing Hugo Strange in that as of yet untitled third batman film? Indeterminate times…

  • Cap_N_Jack

I’ve heard people call it overrated which is a bit of an evasion. For my money it holds up.

  • Sailor Monsoon

Remember when Downey Jr wanted him for iron man 4?
    Better times

  • Indianamcclain

Anything in particular that hasn’t held up?

  • Cap_N_Jack

Yeah, that one was great. I think with San Junipero they tried so hard to have a happy ending that they ended up forcing the emotional arcs.

  • Nightcall by Kavinsky

  • TDK has lowered itself as my favorites over the years.

  • Indianamcclain

I’d like to check it out again. It was a tad bit overhyped for me. Episode 3 was one of my favorites.

  • Indianamcclain

    1. The Dark Knight
    2. The Prestige
    3. Memento
    4. Inception

  • Indianamcclain

It’s still a regular Blu-Ray but it has a 4K transfer. I’ve been convincing myself to get it for 2 years.

  • Remember when Mel Gibson was in talks to Direct Suicide Squad 2?

    Good times.

  • What did you pick it up on this time?

  • My friends been trying to get me to watch that film for years. One of these days.

  • Definitely. Inception, Dark Knight, Prestige. Dunkirk takes 4th

  • What are these random Nolan films!

  • What is that?

  • Cap_N_Jack

Oh yeah, she’s great. Makes me think I should watch halt and catch fire. But yeah, season three was really solid though I may be the only human who thought the ending to San Junipero didn’t work.

  • Indianamcclain

Me too. I was very pleased with season 3. It took me a while to realize that one of the actresses from episode 4 is in Blade Runner 2049.

  • Chicago DEEP DISH with Canadian Bacon

  • DryButSoupy

I’m actually listening to it right now on youtube as I write this.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Very nice

  • Cap_N_Jack

Black Mirror coming out this month. Super pumped.

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Go get em!

  • Indianamcclain

Nope. Following, Insomnia, and Memento were omitted.

  • Indianamcclain

That, and Dark Knight Rises are probably my least favorite Nolan films.

  • Indianamcclain

One of Gosling’s best films. My friend is obsessed with the soundtrack for it.

  • William Dhalgren

    The good ol’ days.

  • DryButSoupy

    Caught Drive tonight. Good flick.

  • DryButSoupy

80’s Tanya Roberts. Yowza. That movie might have contained the first nude scene I ever watched.

  • King Alvarez

I try to forget Insomnia ever happened.

  • Is Following on it? I’d say that’s his most overlooked.

  • Indianamcclain

I’d say it’s in the top 3 of his filmography.

  • William Dhalgren

    Same here.

  • Indianamcclain

Been a long time since I’ve seen that film.

  • Prestige is so good.

  • Indianamcclain

Definitely, I just didn’t understand the point of it.

  • William Dhalgren

Beastmaster is on Amazon Prime right now.

    EDIT:

    And Gleaming the Cube.

  • Indianamcclain

Oh, yeah. I’d say The Prestige is forgotten as well.

  • Indianamcclain

Just double dipped on Home Alone. Hoping I’m pleased with the transfer from a couple years ago.

  • I meant for casual movie viewers. People love TDK trilogy and Inception and whatnot but they forget about Memento it seems. Nolan fans still love it.

  • Indianamcclain

It isn’t forgotten. Memento still ranks as one of his best films for many fans.

  • Memento seems to be forgotten for Nolan films. One day I hope to see it.

  • Indianamcclain

    I’m missing Dunkirk, and Prestige.

  • Indianamcclain

I was surprised it wasn’t included with the set.

  • I picked up silent night, deadly night collectors bluray

  • Nada. Wish Memento would get a bluray rerelease

  • Sailor Monsoon

That’s the first fucking thing i noticed.
    It had to be intentional

  • Sailor Monsoon

I would but i already own all of his films

  • Indianamcclain

Is anybody getting the 4K Nolan boxset?

  • TheDeadFellow

It recently came on Prime. Give it another spin if you want.

  • Indianamcclain

I had a hard time separating the film from the advertising.

  • TheDeadFellow

Yes I was. Very atmospheric, brutal and tension filled, though not the horror film it was advertised as.

  • I wonder how many more shots Ayer is gonna get. I won’t say he’s failing upwards, but he could be considered a Michael Bay protégé. Proto-Bay.

  • Indianamcclain

I don’t think I completely got the film. I didn’t understand why the actors gave a lifeless delivery of their lines.

  • Sailor Monsoon

I liked it but didn’t love it

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Exactly
The story has enough plot to sustain 25 minutes tops.
The film is weird for the sake of weird

  • Indianamcclain

Were you a fan of “It Comes At Night”?

  • Indianamcclain

He was the best part of that film imo.

  • Indianamcclain

The score, effects, and cinematography are all great. However, the actual story itself is a mess. There’s a reason why it was initially a short story. Check out the 80’s Twilight Zone episode if you haven’t already.

  • Sailor Monsoon

I might give it another listen but i remember disliking almost everything about that flick.
I’m not the biggest fan of that director

  • Sailor Monsoon

He’s great in that and killing of a sacred deer

  • TheDeadFellow

Now I want to see him and Edgerton in a Nolan film together DAMMIT.

  • Indianamcclain
  • Indianamcclain

I loved it. It felt like a score straight from the 60’s/70’s. Very Herrman-esque.

  • Sailor Monsoon

That’s interesting that you dug it because it stuck out like a sore thumb to me

  • Sailor Monsoon

The other one i talk about all the time.
It’s the best obscure film ever

  • Indianamcclain

Where is Arcade Fire’s score for The Box? I can’t believe that one of my favorite horror scores from the past decade has never been released. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/62a601d12cb04d478ab53930c59925b60621a24466709d999473cbbdd39c4956.gif

  • Indianamcclain

Never heard of the other one, but the Suspira steelbook is nice.

  • Indianamcclain

It’s not for everybody. I personally didn’t fully understand it. However, the third act is one of the craziest sequences I’ve seen on film this year.

  • Sailor Monsoon
  • Indianamcclain

So glad that they have 3D/2D IMAX shows now.

  • TheDeadFellow

Just finished it. It was bad. Edgerton is the MVP, tho. Dude can turn junk into something watchable through sheer willpower alone.

  • Sailor Monsoon

I need to watch before the year ends:
    Lost city of z
    Life
    A cure for wellness
    Good time
    Wind river
    The shape of water

  • Loud noises! Thanks!

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Haven’t watched it!
    Why am i shouting!

I’ll check it out in January.
The rest of this month will be me playing catch up

  • Sailor Monsoon

    Oh i know.
    We have a club

  • Sailor Monsoon

    God damn right

  • I’ll be checking out Bright as well. Not a huge commitment, getting blockbusters on Netflix. And I heard Joel Edgerton is a scene-stealer, at least (relevant avatar).

  • Any good?

  • Cap_N_Jack

Well I certainly feel that way about PTA…

  • King Alvarez

Watched Brawl in Cell Block 99 on my flight. Great movie, brutal, but great.

  • King Alvarez

    Very

  • Sailor Monsoon

The Coen Bros straddle the line between incredibly deep and incredibly shallow.
    They straddle it hard.
I feel like that film tips the scales into the shallow and i end up not caring about anything.
It reminds me of a PTA film in that regard

  • Cap_N_Jack

That’s fair. Really fair actually. It’s one of those movies that’s by design personal so if it doesn’t click with you on that level, you might not like it at all. For example, for a lot of people I think that The Skeleton Twins is very touching but for me, nothing. On the other hand, certain great film like Children of Men seem universal (or like they should be at least).

  • Sailor Monsoon

I understand why everyone loves it but it didn’t click for me

  • Sailor Monsoon

I think they’re about even in quality
And I’ve never seen a serious man, so if wedge it between them

  • DryButSoupy

I dunno…I might flip Hudsucker and Burn.

  • Cap_N_Jack

    Boom!

Also, I think Inside Llewyn Davis is the most underrated film in their catalogue.

  • Sailor Monsoon

That’s the exact order of importance.

  • Cap_N_Jack

Oh yeah? Ok, here’s my current to-watch list from them.

    1. Raising Arizona
    2. Miller’s Crossing
    3. Hudsucker Proxy
    4. A Serious Man
    5. Burn After Reading

  • Sailor Monsoon

You need to watch Miller’s Crossing

  • Cap_N_Jack

Exactly, I feel bad putting it that low…because it’s pretty great.

  • My bad.
What are you getting on your pixxa?

  • Sailor Monsoon

It’s free on Netflix my friend!

  • Sailor Monsoon

I kind of agree with that ranking and stl consider blood simple a stone cold classic.
That’s how strong their filmography is

  • It’s not until the 29th!

  • TheDeadFellow

Going to be watching Bright tonight. Heard it’s real bad. Might cleanse myself with either watching Lost City of Z or mother! depending on how I feel.

  • Hey Sailor, did you watch Red Christmas? It’s on Vudu for $4…

  • I would know!

  • Sailor Monsoon

    It’s gone.
I deleted half of it because it’s unreadable

  • Cap_N_Jack

Bad photoshop has always been a thing.

  • Well I still work tonight… *drinks anyway*

  • Cap_N_Jack

Se7en is the serial killer movie against which all others are measured…except maybe Zodiac.

  • Cap_N_Jack

Coen brothers films I have seen, ranked:

    1. Fargo
    2. No country for Old Men
    3. True Grit
    4. Inside Llewyn Davis
    5. The Big Lebowski
    6. Oh Brother, where art Thou
    7. Barton Fink
    8. Hail, Caesar
    9. Blood Simple

  • * hands you a beer*

  • THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY

  • Looking forward to it

  • TheDeadFellow

    Boom: https://letterboxd.com/spiderrider/list/ridley-scott-ranked/

Still need to see the rest but I’ve seen a pretty sizable chunk. I just hated what they wrote because of what they said about Kingdom of Heaven (which to me, was blatantly obvious they never watched the Director’s Cut and therefore made the list completely invalid).

  • Currently on the train home for Christmas.
Looking forward to the break from work.
I’ll be active to chat with everyone.
    Enjoy the holidays bro

  • Do a better one!

  • WOO WOO!

  • For Christmas I want the original draft of this entry. Sounds enlightening.

  • Sailor Monsoon

I kinda wish y’all could read my last attempt at writing the latest entry in the animated movies list.
I took a lot of allergy pills (sailor has the worst hay fever and his job does him no favors) and it slowly turned into an insane hodge podge of maybe words and maybe sentences but none of it made sense.
Re-reading it felt like going to an art installation by James Franco about a paranoid schizophrenic having a stroke.
So suffice it to say, you won’t be getting an entry today. Maybe tonight if i have time to rewrite it

  • DryButSoupy

So, in an attempt to both bolster my Christmas spirit and contribute to the site, I’ll be watching It’s a Wonderful Life today/tonight and doing a seasonal AFI post.

Collider just did the shittiest list on Ridley Scott’s films I may have ever seen. Or at least one of them.

ALL I’M TRYING TO DO IS BRING LIFE INTO THIS HOUSE!

  • You think you comment too much already, I comment on the articles I wrote haha.

Yeah, this place will be dead until like second week in January I Bet.

  • Ah yes. The uncomfortable sex scene while watching a movie with your parents. Nothing is worse.

  • I’m sure it has. Doesn’t even feel like Christmas to me yet. I’m just starting the break.

  • News read. I already comment on your articles too much.

It gonna be dead in here too.

I’m sure the pre-holiday hustle and bustle has affected traffic.

I think All the Right Moves was the first sex scene I ever saw as a kid. At my friend’s house…with his mother in the room. I don’t think any of us knew that scene was coming. That was uncomfortable.

  • Here’s what I’ve been watching lately:
    – Crocodile Dundee 2 (A)
    – Dragnet (A; almost wrote a review on this)
    – Better Watch Out (A+)
    – All the Right Moves (B; should have told me Lea Thompson had a nude scene in this)
    – Howard the Duck (D-; god awful, first 2/3 is just cheesy 80s but the last 1/3 is just dumpster fire)

  • This post is up earlier than usual because it’s been dead around here all week (despite my plethora of news posts!!!!). I figured this would bring them out of hibernation.

    Now go read da news!

  • William Dhalgren

After reading a bit about mother!, I admit that I am interested. I’d read some quote from Lawrence that made me think the movie had some contemporary political message and decided it wasn’t worth bothering with. I’m not a huge fan of Lawrence, but I like weird movies and this sounds weird.

  • Woke up earlier than usual. And this post seems to be up earlier than usual. Just for me? You shouldn’t have!
Hopefully starting on some wrapping today. A little miffed that I’m working more days between Christmas and New Year’s than I originally thought, but I need to replenish the reserves after all the spending this season.
    I look forward to a much-deserved drink.

  • The first was standard. The second was 3D, which I recommend, the conversion came out great. The third was IMAX, by far the best.

  • There’s a Christmas song called “Penguin. James Penguin”

Like a well dressed duck in a three piece tux, He’s santas secret spy.

  • You’ve seen TLJ three times already and I haven’t even seen it once yet.

  • Took the day off. Too bad I have shit to do, would rather go for round 4 of Last Jedi. Going to see Three Billboards later today though. I also have $17 pizza dollars to use at Old Chicago for my birthday, so that’s going down.

Yesterday, I went to a dark, dark place. I watched mother! and Seven. Merry Christmas to me! All joking aside, I found mother! to be quite interesting. I really questioned why it was made and what the fuck was going on. Mid way through I read a little about the premise, and then it opened my thoughts on the movie. So in the end, I liked it. I don’t ever need to see it again, but I liked it. Seven on the other hand is a movie I could watch anytime. One of Fincher’s best.
