Everything & Nothing: Racing Into Another Weekend

You guys and gals know the drill; “Everything & Nothing” is a weekend open post where anything goes. Okay, maybe not anything; but it’s a place to chat about stuff in the reel and real world.

Man, another week that felt like it flew by. The summer movie season looks like it’s finally begun, and there’s a lot of great movies playing in theaters right now so I hope everyone is considering taking in a movie sometime (as opposed to going outside and enjoying the fresh air and sun *shudder*). Happy weekend, Exiles!

  • Duke

You fought in WW2? You got to be like 80-90 years old. And you still watch a movie a day. Now that’s cool.

  • Duke

Who… *clears throat* I mean, I’ve heard of the name, what films has he done?

  • Schizo_Frog

You have really done an awesome job building a beautiful site. I have lurked some days here where Blank Stare has done a crazy awesome job with the news. I came back here because this is such a friendly and passionate community and every drop of that does show.

If you’re hiring a writer (and ones who’s going to show up at your house lol) that is definitely commitment to this.

  • sailor monsoon

    No I’m all man.
    I even fought in W W 2

  • sailor monsoon

I just have to say that i wrote a news article once.
    So. You know.
    You’re welcome

  • Lydia Deetz

God, I f*cking adore Ed Wood.

    I hope it rewinded.

    First kurosawa and now refn
    What are you, an owl!

  • Duke

    Who?

  • Lydia Deetz

You haven’t seen Comic Book Villains? Do it!

  • sailor monsoon

I’m more interested in refn’s treatment

  • Duke

I always found that instance with Connery so weird. I’ve only ever seen the Eon Connery Bonds and Craig’s Bonds, but if someone wanted to only watch Connery Bond, then the plot of Thunderball happens twice in his Bond’s life. I understand why that happened in real life, but in reel life just seems out of place.

Let’s hope Sony and Marvel get everything figured out.

  • Duke

“good to have you back baby”
Hold up… So @Schizo_Frog:disqus is actually the Muppet Babies version of Kermit?! Mind blown! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f588b50f409928b8bc7efae3b306607ae742aa394a529d75cdbd2f0dac4a56b1.jpg

In all seriousness, in hindsight I think we all thought that we were going to get this place running at full steam right off the get go (as if we were The Flash season 1 or something). It’s been a learning curve, but DBMI is really invested in this place and turning it into the #1 place to find anything movies, tv, etc. Looking forward to seeing you and the new writer in action throughout the day.

  • DontBeMeanInternet

I want a bond film where Connery comes back as the villain.

  • Jean Morel

If this indeed occurs, it will be a “Sean Connery as Bond in the Eon films & Sean Connery as Bond in Never Say Never Again” situation, except happening concurrently.

  • DontBeMeanInternet

First world problems. But in all seriousness, all my real life stuff is taken care of at the end of today, and I am free to write news in a heartbeat like we first started. Also, have a journalist starting with us tomorrow, literally working side by side with me at my house.

And maybe a few others. A lot of people have been filling in the gaps the last week or so, which is a great thing. Blank Stare is the unsung hero of news, Duke is the man with his original ideas, and Sailor Monsoon owns it with his posts. Jean works like a dog like we all do and he still posts everyday. I needed to take care of some real life shit, get all the ducks in a row before I can go back to 20 hour days on here. This includes writing, communicating with everyone behind the scenes (had a great conversation for 2 hours on the phone with Jean the other day), running social media and the backend of the website.

And as always, Schizo, everyone is invited to write whenever they want.

  • Duke

So I guess Whedon’s old Wonder Woman screenplay from 2006 is just god awful. Anyone read the full thing?

  • Schizo_Frog

Now some may see this as a somewhat antagonistic post given my departure from the staff once a upon a time. But I just want to say that it is impossible for this site to be the main place someone goes for movie news. It’s almost 3pm and there’s not been a single news post. Just Monsoon’s Review and a Movie Mashup. That’s it… I say that because I’d like for this is to be the main source someone would go to but how can it be when there’s no posts… I just had to go to Screenrant (which has 15 news posts up so far today) and Slashfilm. When we were on disqus, we were committed to being a major source for news so no one wouldn’t have to scour a half dozen other movie sites like I just did 15 minutes ago. This site just seems to exist as a chat hangout (which isn’t a bad thing)

  • Duke

    What?

  • Claudia Jalo

    Love friends

  • Duke

Who knows, I mean Tom Hardy is a great choice for Venom. I wouldn’t mind it being part of the MCU is they GOT THE STORY RIGHT! I have no interest in watching a conglomerated mess of storytelling with the sole purpose of setting up future films. I think Sony should cool these universe plans until they see how well Homecoming performs.

  • DryButSoupy

Then again, they might see Avengers 4 as an opportunity to blow things up and try a shared universe with Sony.

  • Schizo_Frog

I don’t think Sony could screw up the MCU… at the most we will just have to ignore their sequels and spinoffs if they contain characters from the MCU (like Spidey, Osbourne, etc) who do thinks that are contradictory to the MCU. But my question is… will Marvel produce the sequel to Homecoming or will that be full Sony?

  • Schizo_Frog

Feige and co at Marvel will have absolutely nothing to do with Sony’s spinoffs… but Sony has the freedom to include Spider-Man in any of their films they want because they hold the rights.

  • 1 2 3 4

That show had the best music.

  • Jooshua

I just looked that up. Wth is that and why am I not watching it at this exact moment.

  • sailor monsoon

    I get that reference gif

  • *blank stare*
  • Duke

Let’s hope. If Sony fucks up the MCU’s continuity I will be so pissed.

  • DryButSoupy

I don’t think I’ve ever tried Zima. I made the mistake of getting a carton of some wine coolers when I was out drinking with my friends before I had developed a taste for beer. We would have been maybe 20 or 21…right around legal age. All it took was “Wine coolers? What kind of shit is THAT?” to keep me from branching out to the non-beer malt beverages ever again. Public shaming is a powerful behavior modifier.

  • DryButSoupy

You know, I liked that song well enough when I first bought the CD, but then they released it as a single and you couldn’t watch MTV for ten minutes without it coming on and I came to detest it. Siamese Dream has some great songs on it, but overall I prefer Gish. “Rhinoceros,” “I Am One,” and “Snail” are some of my favorite Pumpkins songs.

  • DryButSoupy

Trying their best to destroy the Spider-Man franchise again, I think. I’m sure we’ll get some kind of clarification from Marvel this week that tries to reassure fans of the MCU as well as attempts to make it seem like Sony does, in fact, know what they’re doing and isn’t completely clueless about how to manage a franchise.

  • Duke

    That sounds pretty badass.

  • *blank stare*

A homebrew RPG that a mate knocked together using the old DC Universe system.
We’re playing as one of Fury’s little contingency plans.

  • *blank stare*

That’s pretty rad. I’d actually avoided the movie for a long long time mainly ’cause I’m not a die-hard goreseeker, but it always sounded like one of the definitive torture porn genre flicks and Roth is of course well known for what he’s brought to the table.

I didn’t expect the beginning to have such a light tone and by the time things started going wrong, there was still kind of a playful this-isn’t-real-we’re-having-fun-making-this-movie feel about it. That threw me, but not necessarily in a bad way.

Hopefully my local netflix service will eventually release Hostel 2 at some point.

  • sailor monsoon

I did hear that she has a big part JL so that’s exciting

  • Duke

That’d be cool but I think the sequel has been confirmed to be set in the present.

  • sailor monsoon

I hope the sequel also takes place in the past.
You could do WW2, or even cold war where she’s kinda like James bond

  • Duke

She was pretty much perfect casting. Chris Pine was great as Steve Trevor as well.

  • Duke

So Fiege says Venom and Silver & Black are not part of the MCU. Then Amy Pascal says that Tom Holland could appear in the spin-offs as Spider-Man despite that. Wtf is Sony doing?!

  • sailor monsoon

    It’s definitely a B.
    Hopefully DC keeps it up

  • sailor monsoon

    Exactly.
I think Gal Gadot fixes any problems i have with it.
    She’s incredible

  • Duke

There were some scenes where I went “previously in Captain America: The First Avenger”

  • Duke

That would actually be really great. Maybe HBO will make it happen.

  • Duke

The locker scene was totally Tarantino, the escape scene was totally Rodriguez. Just my thoughts, never read about it online or anything.

  • Lydia Deetz

Watching it made me think how great it would be if DC had the balls to do a Justice Society mini-series in the vain of Band Of Brothers.

  • Lydia Deetz

    I gave it 8/10 Bats…..

    I guess that translates to a…. B?

Where has this movie been my whole life?

  • Lydia Deetz
  • TheDeadFellow

Watched A Cure For Wellness last night on Amazon. And oh my goodness, I think I kind of loved it. For all of its flaws (logic gaps, murky backstory, plot conveniences), I was never bored for a single second with Gore Verbinski’s long but visually stunning fun-house of horrors. Strangely enough, I found the movie more lovely to watch than horrifying though when the movie wants to get nasty, it doesn’t shy away. Can’t wait to give it a second go.

  • sailor monsoon

    Watched I Am Heath Ledger.
This is going to border on bad taste because I’m going to be critiquing the dead but his home movies are extremely dull.
The interviews are fine and there’s some great behind the scenes footage but most of the film is shot by ledger and it’s not great.
    For fans only.

You know Tarantino and Rodriguez directed some of those scenes in Hostel…

Needful things might have too much plot for a movie.
It probably should’ve been a television show

    Rookie mistake

  • sailor monsoon

    It’s a really fun flick
There’s some cliche moments but i enjoyed myself.

I like it as much as Captain America

  • Fascist Mjolnir 🔎👽🔍

@TheGreenMalice:disqus promised there would be no math!!!

  • Fascist Mjolnir 🔎👽🔍

    I gave it a completely biased B+.

    And sat through it twice.

And will go see it again this week.

The things that annoyed me did not annoy me enough for me to not enjoy the hell outta that flick.

  • Duke

No bc a double plus is similar to + squared which would be 2x+ giving us 4+. Subdivide by ABC, and remember to minus A from both sides, leaves us with an approximation of CB-+~#, so we than use Pythagorean theorem along with BEDMAS and we end up with a B. Don’t bother checking my math, I know it’s right.

  • sailor monsoon

    More like a B-

  • sailor monsoon

    It’s still entertaining

  • Duke

That bumps it up to a B. We’ll consider it.

  • Duke

What is this pen and paper AoS game you speak of?

  • Joshua Martyniouk

I saw her performance on the tonight show it was really good! Melodrama is such a great album. She is going to get a lot of hits from that album!

I hit that video store again yesterday, I went for titles I haven’t seen this time. I only got one movie I have seen because I needed a copy desperately. No pictures, no phone.

    Have Seen:
    Ed Wood (VHS)

    Haven’t Seen:
    Daybreak (VHS) – CUBA!
The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow (VHS) – Meg Ryan and Jeff Goldblum are in this? What? How have I never heard of this?
Needful Things (VHS) – This was the inspiration for that Rick & Morty episode? Right?
Comic Book Villains (VHS) – Micheal Rapaport? Sold.
    Sister Street Fighter (VHS)

    Total: $6.60

Next week I’m going for the $5 titles.

    I own that movie!

  • Lydia Deetz

    Tis but a secret.

The third really shows what a talent roth actually has.
    It’s a goddamn catastrophe

  • *blank stare*

    – Pen and paper Agents of Shield game with my group yesterday.

    – Bird caught in my house; cats are fascinated but too fat to do anything about it.

    – Now going to hang out with pops after he gets his cataract surgery done.

    – Finally saw Hostel and (*sigh*) Hostel 3 on Netflix. The first was…okay. For a first outing, I agree that Roth has some talent. The third one was a franchise killer.

  • sailor monsoon

    Is that acceptable?

  • Joshua Martyniouk

Was she performing songs fro Melodrama?

  • I listened to Lorde live in concert on Sirius last night, and it was actually really good.

  • There’s actually more answers, and more straight forward story than you would think.

  • Schizo_Frog

I would never, and will never, skip a Batman or Spider-Man film in theaters. Just can’t do it. Love them too much. Doesn’t matter how bad the movie looks. I’ll always be there opening night.

  • Schizo_Frog
  • Well now you have to watch Very Bad Things, because Very Bad Things is hilarious.

  • Duke

Indeed! Haven’t seen you in a while!

  • Duke

    Darn

  • Jean Morel

It’s queue. It’s a French word. It means “tail”, or in this sense “line”. As in “the line of people at the supermarket”. Or here “the line of movies waiting for me to watch them”.

Cue is different, it comes from the Latin word for “when” and refers to a signal to say something or perform an action at a specific moment, particularly relating to the world of acting. Thus saying something “right on cue”.

  • sailor monsoon

    The YouTube police got him

  • Joe Newman

    Quesadilla.

  • William Dhalgren

    I know, I know…

  • TheGreenMalice

    Que pasa?

  • sailor monsoon

I know and i believe raimi purposely made every scene with venom as shitty as possible so that they’d be forced to cut but they didn’t

  • Joe Newman

    Its queue. Grammar nazi away!!!!

  • Joe Newman

Isn’t that what he always does?

  • Joe Newman

I wish he would do a Jack Slater short like people having been doing a lot lately. Not a sequel, but a little clip for charity or something.

  • Joe Newman

I love Forbidden Planet and it’s hard to find people that have actually seen it.

  • Joe Newman

Avi Arad and Sony forced Raimi to put Venom in because of fan demand. He was not familiar with or a fan of the character as he grew up on the 60s/70s comics. It’s Arad and Sony’s fault because all they knew was “people like this character = $$$”.

  • Joe Newman

I think most of the backlash is due to most people getting their Spider-Man knowledge from the 90s cartoon (nothing wrong with that), so they loved Venom. They basically had a similar experience that comic fans have had already for years.

  • Joe Newman

Pretty sure RDJ is going to retire the role soon, so they’re using him to usher in the new one.

  • Duke

Friendly reminder to @coolhandluque:disqus that your month of AFI 100 articles begins July 4th! Hope you’re up for it and ready to go! If you forget which movies you’re covering or have any questions email afi100@filmexodus.com or dbmi@filmexodus.com or both. Cheers.

  • Joe Newman

I so didn’t want to ASM2 in theater but I bit the bullet and did. I wish I had just skipped it. Also, I think Homecoming looks great.

  • Duke

Also haven’t heard from @Tey1123:disqus, wonder what the guy who used to post trailers seconds after they went on YouTube has been up to

  • Joe Newman

Profits depend on where you live now though. 😉

Ah that takes me back to my younger days

  • Duke

SM3 isn’t that bad actually. I enjoy watching it alongside the others. It’s a nice conclusion given that it’s the last we’ll see of Maguire Spidey.

  • DryButSoupy

I like Spider-Man well enough. I really enjoyed the first two Raimi movies. I suppose it’s that there’s nothing about the others that really grabbed my attention.

  • William Dhalgren

    Hey, you came back!

  • ResonanceCascade

I have not forgotten! Just haven’t posted it because I’m in a crunch month. Will be back on a sane schedule in a few weeks.

  • Schizo_Frog

RDJ is squeezing every penny out of Marvel/Disney that he can.

Are you not a big Spidey fan? The ASM films aren’t particularly great but I’d still recommend them to fans of comic book movies. ASM2 is very similar to Batman Forever in terms of quality, tone, and execution. In any case, I think both are very fun movies… very comicy

  • Indianamcclain

So I just saw it and it’s nothing like Weekend At Bernies.

  • Indianamcclain

If you know somebody that wants to see it stop them. It wasn’t good.

  • sailor monsoon

    It sure is terrible.
I remember loving it when i was younger but nostalgia is liar!

    Those look fucking legit brotha.

    I said zodiac!

  • Joshua Martyniouk

    I know I am awesome!

  • sailor monsoon

I hate him in that film but he’s not Miscast in my opinion.
Their version of eddie Brock is a douche bag version of Peter Parker and he nails it.
I just think he, and the entire venom subplot are useless

  • DryButSoupy

Topher Grace never fails to rub me the wrong way.

  • DryButSoupy

I haven’t watched the two newest Spidey films. And only have seen Spider-Man 3 in pieces. As much as I want to see Keaton’s take on The Vulture, I’m not particularly psyched about this new one, either. I share your lack of enthusiasm for Tony Stark being crammed into yet another hero’s franchise. RDJ is great. I’ll always like him as an actor. And he’s the perfect Tony Stark. Iron Man, along with Captain America, the Avengers, and Batman, was one of the few super hero comics I got every month as a teenager. But I’m getting Stark fatigue. Cap has always edged out Iron Man for the number one spot on my list of favorite super heroes.

  • DryButSoupy

I haven’t seen it in forever, but I’ve got a desire to give Killing Zoe a rewatch.

  • DryButSoupy

I actually read a review where it was compared to Weekend at Bernie’s.

I haven’t seen Very Bad Things since, like, 1999. It’s a very 90’s kind of movie in that it sort of followed the same formula of incorporating subversive humor into a narrative where a crime is central to the plot. Friends at a bachelor’s party hire a stripper and Jeremy Piven accidentally kills her during rough sex. Hijinks ensue. I remember thinking at the time “uh, guys…I know Jeremy is your friend and all, but he murdered that poor woman. Plus he’s a dick.” Other than that, I don’t remember much about it.

  • DryButSoupy

According to my quick Google search, technically it’s queue…with the caveat that in American English “cue” seems to have become accepted spelling when you’re talking about a line or row. In Britain it’s still queue. But I’ve seen it spelled “que” as well. Where’s a grammar nazi when you need one?

  • DryButSoupy

They really make you realize what a different era it was, both in terms of technology and society.

  • DryButSoupy

Early drinks will do it every time. I used to occasionally have a beer at lunch in the summer, but all it did was make me not want to go back to work.

  • DryButSoupy

You know, I read somewhere this week that Zima is being brought back this summer for a limited time.

  • I’m loving it. 18 episodes is a lot of story.

  • Not familiar with the comic, but I know that figure is a big deal.

  • They have yet to make a good Slater toy.

  • Duke

I want to say you’re going to donate blood but I could be wrong.

  • Duke

Nah already got those 2 on DVD. that’s good enough for me.

  • Duke

Yea the ASM films don’t come anywhere near the OT, but they’re fun films to watch nonetheless.

  • TheGreenMalice

I better break up some concrete, plant some seeds, and wait 30 years…
Or take the very very very long route.

  • Going to yoga and then enjoying a few Zimas.
Going to the gym and then knocking back a few brewskies.

  • Jean Morel

They wanted him to concentrate solely on their film so claimed breach of contract and kicked him out. Or so the story goes.

  • Allisonc

Sounds like my weekend now work today is not gonna happen after I started drinking at lunch.
I now have an 80s movie afternoon and evening planed.
And am going to have to catch up and with a long work day Sunday .
    Darn that wine.

  • Schizo_Frog

Make it worth the purchase. Walk to work and take the route through the woods or jungle.

  • Schizo_Frog

I haven’t seen it yet but it looks like a Lynch just tediously filming random stuff around a small town for 10 hours. That’s not necessarily a bad thing tho

  • Schizo_Frog

LMAO I was going to say Jack Slater always wore a red t-shirt with no collar, and always tucked in his pants. Didnt realize that was Butch.

  • Schizo_Frog

Just gonna throw this out there but the huge focus on Tony Stark and bland looking villain (despite being played by Keaton) makes me think I won’t like Homecoming more than Spider-Man 2.

Also, I’m a fan of ASM2. I won’t say it’s a good film, but it’s extremely fun. The first one was bland. I’m still utterly astonished by the fact that they made another Spider-Man origin film so extremely quick.

  • Schizo_Frog

You should become a pot dealer.

  • Schizo_Frog

Why the hell would they be mad that he worked on Fast and Furious?!

  • Schizo_Frog

    You are awesome Josh.

  • Schizo_Frog

I’m surprised by the number of people who want to see Rough Night!

  • Schizo_Frog

    MuhHhahahahahaha

  • *blank stare*

I had this half assed fantasy of turning my study into a 40’s noir detective office after I saw those retro-style bluetooth stereos. Even picked out some old Sam Spade radio dramas to play on it and a retro desk fan and Bakelite ashtray.

But then I was thinking “how cool would it be to paint everything in the office monochomatically?” and I realized that this plan was never actually going to happen.

  • Lydia Deetz

Well, off to make some cash. I must embark across the neighborhood and through a harsh forest to reach my destination. A strange terminal awaits me then I must catch a ride on vessel of the dead and dying to the hospice of donations for… Vampires.

Everybody got to eat, Vampire life matters.

All the while I will be strumming a banjo and singing tunes from ‘Over The Garden Wall’.

It’s never too early for an adventure.

  • Lydia Deetz
  • Allisonc

Thanks some of those old casts sound really good, I will have to give a few a try.

  • Jooshua

Wow, I had no idea!! Thanks for the info. I can’t believe it’s still on. That’s amazing.

  • Indianamcclain

Some of the new scenes are on YouTube. Here are a few recorded from someone’s TV.

I don’t watch horror at all I can get sleepless nights and nightmares for a few weeks after.
I think it would be worse on radio my imagination would go into overdrive.

  • Allisonc

Just looked it up its popular still on air.
I might try radio plays and shows again sometime.
I remember enjoying a few as a kid when I was grounded for one month with a TV ban.
That was a harsh punishment I can’t even remember what it was for.

  • Lydia Deetz

Would you say I’m an…. All star?

The shadow could be good on radio.
Some of those old ones are worth listening to for the odd sound affects.

  • sailor monsoon

    Keep the hits coming sir

Cool when I was at Walmart they had ASM and ASM2 each with their own bluray with slip cover.

I know someone was talking about this last weekend. Maybe it was @indianamcclain:disqus about Spider-Man 3 editors cut. Well it was released alongside a new bluray combo set. Includes the original three films as well as 2.1 and the SM3: Editors Cut.

  • Duke

Just picked up Chapter 2 myself on Tuesday. That slip cover is gorgeous

  • Duke

    Que I think?

I’m not using my own equipment, my tablet burned out… I just ordered a new Laptop. So I may be on here less until it arrives. I may watch Forbidden Planet then pass out.

That store I mentioned earlier in the week is called Grindhouse Video, there specialty is the horror genre. I got….

    Flash Gordon (VHS)
    Bones (VHS)
    Forbidden Planet (VHS)

    Total: $3.21

All titles I was missing in my collection. They also had a variety of rare titles, such as a Prism release of the live action Spider-Man TV series…. $25 for a two episodes! Jesus…. After Spider-Man Strikes Back this was my reaction…

    https://youtu.be/NIgfiSzCy1o

I’m steering far away from anything related to that 70’s train wreck of a show.

  • William Dhalgren

Sometimes you gotta bug out and go to work, yo.

  • Indianamcclain

Never seen Very Bad Things. Ironically, the trailer reminded me of Weekend At Bernie’s.

  • Indianamcclain

Tyler made some of the more memorable scores for Marvel. I liked Iron Man’s theme in Iron Man 3, and Thor’s in Thor: The Dark World. It seemed like he was setting up themes in individual films, and planning to bring them together in Age Of Ultron. The Iron Man 3 theme is in there, but that’s about it. I also thought his Marvel theme for the opening logo was better than what they have now.

  • Indianamcclain

So I’m all caught up on Twin Peaks. Not too crazy about this new season. Portions feel tedious, and self indulgent. I want the Dougie storyline to end already, but since they’ve set up so many plot lines around Dougie/Agent Cooper I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon. The show just doesn’t feel like Twin Peaks so far. I will stick with it though.

  • sailor monsoon

I pretty sure it’s pronounced kewy.
But don’t quote me on that.
And you should definitely watch zodiac.
    It’s fincher’s second best film

  • DryButSoupy

Not sure. I have several in my Netflix cue, some of which I’ve forgotten. I’ve not watched Zodiac, but I know it’s supposed to be pretty good. It’s been on the back burner for a while.

    cue? is that right? Queue?

  • TheDeadFellow

It was pretty straightforward to me: People and relationships suck. It’s like Gone Girl in that aspect, but gender inverted and lacking the humor that film did.

Oh yeah, ATJ was a real nasty piece of work in this.

  • Indianamcclain

I may’ve been overthinking the ending to Nocturnal Animals. I was thinking it was trying to say something deep, but I don’t think it is.

Aaron Taylor Johnson was surprisingly good in it.

  • sailor monsoon
  • I know.

  • sailor monsoon

    You better get it.

  • Rough Night will be my first movie at the Drafthouse.

  • sailor monsoon

What movie(s) are you thinking about watching?

  • sailor monsoon

    I like

  • Here’s what I’ve been coveting lately, and hope to add to my collection, you son of a bitch! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a21ca4b4001a7dd7f6cf9c8475ce32b6a8aefa11adb577bd59b0170d3dfbb18a.jpg

  • Whedon.

  • Jooshua

I would listen to The Adventures of Harry Nile. It’s what made me love stories about the classic hard boiled P.I.

  • sailor monsoon

That’s the only review that needs to be written

  • Don’t say it.
    Don’t think it.
    Don’t watch it.

  • TheGreenMalice

“The film does not include any songs written by Hendrix, as the filmmakers’ request to use them was denied by Experience Hendrix LLC (Hendrix’s estate).”

This is from wikipedia, it mentions that the songs in the film were from before his debut album. So they are technically his(?), but certainly not the “hits”.

    Andre is great casting though.

  • DryButSoupy

I’ll be interested to hear how closely Rough Night resembles Very Bad Things.

  • Jean Morel

Yes seriously. Notice how Tyler was literally their guy for two years there, scoring 3 films, 1 short, a TV special and their first fanfare, giving interviews left and right, talking about his direction for Marvel and then suddenly he never worked with them again despite the fact that he’s extremely loyal to franchises and they dropped his fanfare like a hot potato starting with Age of Ultron before introducing the Giacchino one late last year and pretending it was the only one they ever did?

    Marvel be spiteful mate.

  • DryButSoupy

I’ve never seen it either, which is odd because I’m a big Beatles fan. I also need to watch Magical Mystery Tour.

  • Indianamcclain

No, I didn’t. It came, and went.

  • DryButSoupy

I don’t remember that. But that’s some b.s….if I watch a movie about Hendrix I don’t want to be listening to some wannabe covering his songs. But I do remember thinking that Andre 3000 seemed like a good casting choice.

  • TheGreenMalice

    Sometimes I already did..

  • DryButSoupy

    I’m okay with that.

  • TheGreenMalice

I haven’t seen it, but wasn’t there semi controversy because it’s didn’t have any actual Hendrix music in it?

  • DryButSoupy

Have tomorrow off but I have to work on Sunday. Gonna try to get a hike in if the weather cooperates. And I might try to watch a movie this weekend that I haven’t seen and work on another “Cross if off the list” article.

Right now I’m just kinda chilling out with The Princess Bride playing on BBC America.

  • TheGreenMalice

    No I don’t. I am not gonna.

  • DryButSoupy

Speaking of biopics…Have you (or anyone) seen that Jimi Hendrix movie starring Andre 3000? I’m a HUGE Hendrix fan, but I haven’t watched it yet. Wondering if it’s any good. I think it’s called “All Is By My Side.”

  • DryButSoupy

When I was a kid we got my dad some old radio shows on cassette. The Shadow, Abbott and Costello and a few others. They were kinda cool.

  • Joshua Martyniouk

Sweet I plan to review that tomorrow with Katy Perry´s new album and rank the E3 press conferences which will be an opinion article!

  • DryButSoupy

Sometimes you just have to listen to Sometimes.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5WlvtsDVg8

  • DryButSoupy

I definitely think you should review that album. We’ve got several big music fans here and I know I’m always on the lookout to be introduced to new stuff.

  • Joshua Martyniouk

It´s the best Beatles movie ever made!

  • Joshua Martyniouk

I am staying home planning to watch some Rick and Morty and relax after intense E3 coverage! I need a break! As for this week I got to go Tubing, ride a JetSki and flip over twice and swim in Fox Lake, bowling I also went canoeing and I got badly burned by the sun because even though i put sunscreen the sun burns me anyways! Time for cold yogurt torture! Yay! I also got my crown back and won an injustice 2 tournament! E3 was so much fun I will totally do it again next year! Also listened to Lorde´s Melodrama and it made me cry so much and is a fantastic album that I have to review since I love Lorde. Might watch some movies and Netflix but overall i´m just going to relax. I really need it!

  • TheGreenMalice

Sometimes I have a shopping problem. Sometimes I feel that I need to purchase something. Sometimes it’s a necessity. This afternoon I bought a tactical backpack/bug out bag to carry my shit to and fro work. Sometimes I am a fucking idiot.

  • sailor monsoon

It’s the only one of the bunch I’ve never seen

  • sailor monsoon

You can drink without going blind

  • Joshua Martyniouk

I heard rough night is good and funny and 47 meter down is just another shark movie.

  • Joshua Martyniouk

    Watch Yellow Submarine first!

  • TheGreenMalice

I remember riding in my Dad’s Ford Ranger when I was a kid, and he would listen to radio plays and dramas.

  • It was a Redbox .
Why do you think I’m drinking?

  • sailor monsoon

Turn that shit off and just mail your money to Doug Jones instead

  • Watching Bye Bye Man
Ate Pizza and drinking 21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon .

Going to see It Comes at Night tomorrow

  • TheDeadFellow

Recently watched Nocturnal Animals and John Wick Chapter 2. The former disturbed me while I had a ball with the latter.

  • sailor monsoon

It’s a horror themed radio show

  • Indianamcclain

Seriously? Marvel needs to get over themselves?

  • Joe Newman

Ah, I don’t really listen to the radio anymore. My mind didn’t go there.

  • Joe Newman

Some shows like Doctor Who for example still have popular audio stories, but I can’t say I have listened to any.

  • sailor monsoon
  • Allisonc

No just on a few others sites and not been on discus much this week.
Besides I have only really been watching Parks and Recreation for the last few weeks.

  • Allisonc

Thanks let’s see if they’re a t.v show of it.

  • Jean Morel

Where have you been all this time? I thought you’d deserted the site.

  • sailor monsoon

    Recent-ish.
    Within the last 5 years

  • Allisonc

    Is that a recent one?

  • sailor monsoon

There’s one by Larry fessenden called tales from beyond the pale that’s really good

  • Allisonc

Yes that’s what I was getting at , I was watching a show about old sketch show comedians and they all got their start in radio.

  • Jean Morel

Brian Tyler was fired by Marvel because they were angry he was also working on Fast & Furious and Elfman was brought in.

  • Allisonc

I think it’s a medium that had it’s place before T.V and still when they were less T.V channels but it’s past now.
I know a few older people who listen to a radio soap that has ran here for about 50 years called the archers and that’s all.

  • Indianamcclain

    Yes

  • Duke

Wasn’t Elfman a composer in addition to Brian Tyler?

  • Indianamcclain

I was thinking WB as well. However, since Elfman was brought in on Age of Ultron it could’ve been Whedon as well.

  • Duke

Congrats about the job! But aww that you’ll be only popping in now and then because of it.

  • Duke

WB would be my guess but Whedon could have had a hand in it.

  • Indianamcclain

    Oh, I see

  • Duke

Same. Except I think she probably referring to actually listening to it on the radio as opposed to YouTube (at least that’s where I heard it).

  • Duke

One time I turned on the radio and some weird children’s story was being played out. Some wolf was going for a boy and a girl. They hide in a tree. Oh no! The wolf got the girl! Wait! She’s fine! It was like a repeat from what they aired forty years ago.

  • Indianamcclain

I’ve heard a bit of Orson Welles War of the World’s broadcast. That’s about it.

  • Allisonc

Has anyone in the past or now ever listened to any radio plays or dramas?
With the exception of one month when I was a kid with a TV ban, I’ve have only listened to music and news on the radio.

  • Joe Newman
  • Indianamcclain

    Sounds legit

  • DontBeMeanInternet

    Bruce Timm.

  • Indianamcclain

I was randomly thinking about this today. Who do you think hired Danny Elfman for Justice League? Whedon, or WB?

  • Indianamcclain

Gonna try to catch 47 Meters Down, and Rough Night this weekend. I’m genuinely surprised at the reaction to the Tupac biopic. It’s sad to see an actor that looks exactly like Tupac wasted in a subpar film.

Just got hired at a job where I’ll be working nights. Probably won’t be around here quite as often.

  • Allisonc

I just have plans for lunches with friends.
The rest of the weekend overtime working from home admin, I’m trying to decide what film or T.V to have as my background sound.
Needs to be something I have seen so much I won’t get distracted interesting and entertaining enough that I won’t want to turn it off, it will be on in the next room so sound only.
I’m thinking star trek TOS series/movies or a Cary Grant movie marathon maybe Gilmore Girls.

  • Duke

I’ll start things off this week I guess. Hoping to enjoy a few flicks, and play some Minecraft. Maybe workout and hang with the buds. We’ll see how things play out.
