First Look at Harbour in ‘Hellboy’; Plus New Actor Cast for Ben Daimio

A couple big Hellboy news hits the interwebs today.

First, Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-O) has joined the cast in the role of Major Ben Daimio (previously vacated by Ed Skrein due to a whitewashing controversy).

Next, we have our first official look at star David Harbour as the big red guy. Let’s take a look.

For starters, I didn’t know Harbour was in that good of shape. Second, I’m sold. Count me in. I’ll see this in theaters without any comic book knowledge background. Cast looks good. First look looks good. Hellboy looks good y’all.

So, basically, they just hired Harbour to make him wear a Ron Perlman suit and mask. Works for me.

LGBTQ people need icons, sure, but I don’t know that they want an icon who kills children. Maybe they need to think things through…

  • Exactly. And what does it say for society if two men who have a good friendship are immediately perceived as gay? (cough Steve and Bucky cough). Isn’t that almost saying that two guys who are childhood best friends with a solid friendship can’t not be gay? Hurts my mind thinking about this.

    Lol totally not pc

Perlman was the hellboy imo. A big part of that was his voice which always seemed right for the scene. I’m going to wait and see if he lives up to Ron’s gravelly yet surprisingly at times soft voice.

  • King Alvarez

Well, he definitely looks like Hellboy. The hand looks pretty badass too.

  • DropYourLinen

Gonna be real fuckin’ weird not hearing Perlman’s voice come out of that, but I’m on board. Also…maybe it’s just the lighting and angle, but if not, hit them legs a bit more, Red.

I love me some Hellboy and will gladly consume this entertainment but I will never not want the end of the OG trilogy. RIP

  • *blank stare*

I remember reading an interview where Harbour recounted the time he was passed over to play The Blob in Wolverine Origins because of his weight.
Sounds funny, but it had more to do with him handling the prosthetics.

I doubt he’d let that happen twice.

That’s the other thing I thought: isn’t that stereotype of gay people as flamboyant sort of a bad thing? I mean, we shouldn’t be reducing entire populations of people to stereotypes, right?

  • Exactly. SJWs just want to make any popular movie character gay. I mean could he be gay? I guess. But he’s a shapeshifter. Just because he dances or dresses different (he’s dressed as a clown from the older days cmon people) and wanting to being the center of attention; aren’t those gay stereotypes you wouldn’t necessarily want associated with a gay character? Idk

    Daniel is perfect casting!
Also if they added a cigarette to his mouth and a brown trenchcoat it would have been perfect! Im very excited for this new Hellboy movie.

    Gay Pennywise?
He was dancing to a girl not a guy.
    LMFAO!

  • DryButSoupy

I’m interested to see what they do with this. I’m down.

  • DryButSoupy

I haven’t seen the movie yet (or read the book,) but isn’t Pennywise a space alien or ancient monster or something? Like, he’s not really a human dudeclown, right?

  • sailor monsoon

    I accept this coupling

  • Off topic but whatevs:

Apparently people perceive Pennywise to be gay because he likes dancing and having to be the center of attention? Sayeth what?!

  • General audiences probably didn’t see the first two.

So essentially he’s wearing a rubber suit? Weird

  • sailor monsoon

    I’m 100% down for this

  • I didn’t know Harbour was in that good of shape.

I think some of that is rubber (just like Perlman). I bet he went to the gym, though.

Looks good. Almost like the Perlman suit with a dash of Conan. Wonder if general audiences will know this is a reboot.
