James Gunn in Talks to Write ‘Suicide Squad’ Sequel; May Even Direct

James Gunn is making the leap from Marvel to DC. Gunn, who was fired earlier this year from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, has been hired to write the screenplay for Suicide Squad 2. Word on the street is that Warner Bros. is hoping he’ll direct as well.

The sequel will be a new take on the popular comic series meaning that Suicide Squad seen in the 2016 film might not be the one you see in the sequel. My best guess however is that Will Smith and/or Margot Robbie will find themselves back in the equation.

Suicide Squad director David Ayer has already come out in support of this decision over Twitter writing: I think it’s an incredibly brave and smart move by the studio. James is the right man for the job!

James Gunn’s #1 super fan Dave Bautista also tweeted his support writing: Where do I sign up!

Suicide Squad may have made a bunch of money back in 2016, but it wasn’t exactly a critically darling. Hiring someone like Gunn, who wrote and directed two of the most critically acclaimed movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is a smart move. It finally looks like the DC Extended Universe is starting to take shape and become a legitimate threat.

What do you think of James Gunn writing and directing Suicide Squad 2? Which villains do you want to see on his roster?
