Yeah, we’re think he’s back (for thirds).
The first John Wick film was something of a surprise smash, helping rejuvenating the career of Keanu Reeves by giving him his own star led franchise thanks to its inventive action scenes, colorful world build and extreme style. The second film doubled down on all of what made the first a success and wound up coming up even higher on top than its predecessor, both critically and commercially, with a doozy of a cliffhanger ending to boot. And much to the surprise of no one, the third is finally starting to enter pre-production.
Omega Underground reports that the first draft of the script by series writer Derek Kolstad and that casting will start soon. To elaborate:
There was speculation on our part that scheduling played a large factor and how producer David Leitch would be busy with post on Deadpool 2 throughout most of the fall and winter. Lionsgate apparently wanted everyone back to keep the magic going. So they’ve been patient and pushed the production start.
It’s now been revealed to us that the film has finally entered the pre-production stage and the casting process will begin soon. This would suggest that creator and screenwriter Derek Kolstad has finished a draft of the script.
On top of that, Reeves himself has given hints in the past that beyond taking place in New York City like the first two, we might also see other locations like Jerusalem and Tokyo.
The film is set to release on May 17th, 2019.
