Jim Carrey warmed up with Dark Times, and now he’s back to television on Showtime, in the new series Kidding. Here’s the first trailer:
This just made my must-watch list. I’m getting a serious Mr. Rogers vibe with downward spiral elements. And I’m digging that cinematography (Gondry’s fingerprints are all over this). Is that opening monologue from the end of the series, or the end of his first character arc? We will see. I love the fact that Conan O’Brien is in it as himself. A great nod to the friendship between them off-camera. And check out that cast. No guff, man.
From what I can find, the series has 10 episodes so far. Here’s the official synopsis:
Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles, an icon of children’s television, a beacon of kindness and wisdom to America’s impressionable young minds and the parents who grew up with him – who also anchors a multimillion-dollar branding empire. But when this beloved personality’s family – wife, two sons, sister and father – begins to implode, Jeff finds no fairy tale or fable or puppet will guide him through the crisis, which advances faster than his means to cope. The result: a kind man in a cruel world faces a slow leak of sanity as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.
Kidding premieres Sunday, September 9th on Showtime.
