Kiernan Shipka Cast as Title Role in Netflix’s Riverdale Spinoff ‘Sabrina’

Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) has been cast in the lead role of Sabrina Spellman in the upcoming Netflix series.

Here’s an official statement on the casting from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, executive producer of the show and Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer:

“We’re all such huge fans of Kiernan’s work that when we started talking about who this new incarnation of Sabrina could be, her name was on everyone’s wish list. This is a darker, more macabre version of Sabrina, and we’re incredibly excited for people to see Kiernan make this iconic character her own.”

I support this casting. She’s a dead ringer for Sabrina (blonde hair and all). If there is one thing I admire about these Archie Comics adaptations its that they sure do bring to life their characters faithfully (visually at least… for the most part). Can’t wait to see who else joins the cast in the coming weeks.

The upcoming series is based off the critically acclaimed Archie Horror series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. It is yet to be seen just how faithfully they adapt the comic, specifically if it will be set in the 1960s or brought to the present. The series is expected to debut sometime in 2018.

  • Kemosabe 🦇

She seems fitting. But who’s gonna play Salem?!!

  • Joe Newman

I figured you would. I think for young actors, they do a tremendous job.

  • Nokoo

Funny you should say that because I think even Williams has had spurts of bad acting on her respective show, all of them lately now that she’s older.

  • Joe Newman

I disagree. I think she was just as good as Maisie Williams was when they were that young.

  • Nokoo

You serious? She was the worst actor there. She got progressively worse, not better like most child actors would with experience.

  • Bad animatronic cat with Angry Beaver voice, or no dice.

  • Need to watch Mad Men sometime.

Her casting definitely moves Sabrina up on the anticipation scale.

  • Joe Newman

She was one of the best actors on Mad Men and that is saying something.
