  • 1 2 3 4

Awesome, I’ll try to get them done soon.

  • Poppity⛄

Alright then! Honestly, I couldn’t do it myself but Mr. Poppity has a very interesting view on WWII due to his upbringing. The only thing that I really ‘enjoy’ about that film is Fiennes’ oustanding performance.

  • DryButSoupy

He can have it. I don’t really want to do it.

  • DryButSoupy

He can have it. It’s a great movie, but I’m not sure I’ll feel like watching it any time soon.

  • Poppity⛄

Oh, that’s ok! I think Soupy would do a great job. It’s his for the taking. 😛

  • Excellent. @imastardogchampion:disqus has expressed interest in Schindlers list as well (possibly) so those two might have to fight for it 😛

  • DryButSoupy

A couple. Schindler’s List, maybe, but that’s such a heavy movie. I’ve got to be in the mood to watch a film like that. It ain’t exactly a sit down with a beer and a snack on Saturday night type flick.

  • DryButSoupy

I was kidding about Berenger. He’s definitely not the hero of that flick.

I agree about Sheen. But my problem with him isn’t as big as my problem with Woody Allen and Roman Polanski.

  • Poppity⛄

Mr. Poppity will also take the following films:
    2001: A Space Odyssey
    Jaws
    Schindler’s List
    Spartacus

  • Poppity⛄

His father has a penchant for war movies so I think it stems from there. Both his grandfathers were imprisoned in concentration camps, so the war effort (in general) hits very close to home. I’ll ask him about Berenger … I’ve watched it with him but I didn’t care for it all that much. I think the thing that bothers him the most is the crap about Sheen. It’s not so easy to watch his movies nowadays. :-/

  • Poppity⛄

I wish … I’m waiting on Mary Poppins to drop in at any minute. Cabin fever here is mounting. It has rained for practically 2 months straight.

  • It’s yours! Anything else catch your eye?

  • Drop the kids off at French chuckie Cheeses and write there!

  • Poppity⛄

I will do that, thanks! 🙂
He is testing the waters with Ben-Hur but I think he could definitely be interested. I’ll let him check out the list of remaining movies. He also wants to write a ‘normal’ review or two. The only challenge is finding the time between work and the crazy house filled with nutty kids! 😉

  • DryButSoupy

Okay…cool. Since he was looking forward to Platoon it just made me wonder what kind of eyes he was watching it through. He does realize that Tom Berenger is the good guy in that film, right? 😉

  • Poppity⛄

LOL Nope, I’m not a spy or secret agent. Mr. Poppity is a full-blooded Frenchman and he took a chance marrying a crazy American-born lady like myself. 😉

  • DryButSoupy

You’ll love it. It was made at a time when the traditional western was in decline. It’s a great rejuvination of the genre.

  • 1 2 3 4

I haven’t seen it…I think these AFI articles are the perfect motivation to see classic movies I’ve missed.

  • DryButSoupy

Question: are you married to a Frenchman or are you a couple ex-pats just living over there?

Feel free to not answer if that’s personal or you’re spies laying low or something.

  • DryButSoupy

I’ll do Easy Rider if it hasn’t been picked yet.

  • DryButSoupy

Dude…Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is one of my favorite movies. Looking forward to that one.

  • Fair enough. The schedule is filled to end of April so you wouldn’t be scheduled until the summer months. Not sure when your semester ends.

  • Yup post it to your account and write “Mr. Poppity” in the byline lol. If he wants to do anymore let me know!

  • I’ve got the schedule done up to the end of April so you’d probably be slotted in over the summer (May-August) for your picks if that’s fine.

  • 1 2 3 4

Yes! I think I’d like to do Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Shane if that’s alright. When would the deadline be?

  • Poppity⛄

Ah, I see you have extended the schedule. I will let Mr. Poppity know about Platoon, as he is really looking forward to that one. Ben-Hur is for this weekend. Shall I post his write-up from my WP account? Of course, all the credit would go to him. 😛

  • Joe Newman

I don’t quite have a lot of time right now (new semester), but I may be able to do one later in the year. There is a lot of movies, so I don’t want to steal one from someone that could do it quicker.

  • @disqus_CzhvKeqnq9:disqus, @Tanis11:disqus, @ImAStardogChampion:disqus, @tyrano:disqus; you all have 0-1 AFI’s left to do so I’ve decided to do some polite nudging and ask if any of the remaining movies interest you enough to sign up for 1 or 2 more?

  • William Dhalgren

    I have my moments.

  • You are amazing.

  • William Dhalgren

    Duke, I’ll take Network.

  • Poppity⛄

    Who dat, who dere? 😉

  • What wants to do more!

  • Haha okay sounds good.

  • sailor monsoon

    Duke!
As with my last afi review, I’m going to copy and paste the previous review because i don’t know the numbering of my films.
    So it’ll need slight editing.
    Your my boy duke

  • I just might. I’ll email you.

  • Poppity

No problem, I’m glad to take the challenge. You can fit me in whenever you like and I’ll let you know if anything doesn’t work. October is a bit busy and also my kids have vacation at the end of the month/early Nov. but starting from then, it should be alright. I won’t have the Virginia Woolf DVD for a week or so yet, though, but I have the DVDs for all the others I signed up to do. (If, though, you need an emergency fill-in for October, I’ll see what I can do.) 😀

  • Sounds good! That list is probably getting updated again. You’re so consistent I might make you a monthly regular 😛

  • Poppity

@DukeMyNameIs:disqus – If you are interested, I can take Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? off of your hands.

  • Haha no worries. I had Poppy doing one of hers for a reserve. I was worried @Tanis11:disqus might not make it but with the rearranging that should give him another week or two (him and I can always swap) to get his done.

Rest well Will. You don’t have one until February now!

  • William Dhalgren

Dude, I was just kidding. I would have made it work! Sorry I caused you extra work, man. Jeez.

  • Would @thedeadfellow:disqus, @TheGypsyThatIWas:disqus, and/or @darthchair:disqus be interested in doing some AFI 100 posts from the remaining movies?

  • Alright. I’ll bump yea back

  • William Dhalgren

    Always, Duke. Always.

  • Too soon?

  • William Dhalgren

    Again?!

  • Poppity

It’s a Wonderful Life is timeless even if it has become tradition to show it each year. I like your idea to feature it at Christmas. 🙂

  • Sounds good!

  • DryButSoupy

Sure. I could do that. I’ll probably finish it early and then schedule it to post on the 26th just so it doesn’t get lost in the shuffle in the run up to Christmas.

  • Sounds good.

  • I can totally move some stuff around if you want to do it. Those are all really placeholders just so people sort of know when to do it.

That movie would really be good for December 26th. I could bump back a few things and make it work if your interested. No harm, no foul.

  • DryButSoupy

Will do. I’ve been thinking that once the current slate nears completion I’ll see what’s left and do a couple more.

  • Your two reviews were amazing. When January 2018 rolls around watch me hit you up to do a couple more.

  • Despotic Guillotine 🔎👽🔍

    I’ve fooled you all.

  • Despotic Guillotine 🔎👽🔍

    Not yet.

    😛

  • Alright sounds good. As long as I can copy and paste them into the post.

    Having trouble?

  • DryButSoupy

It’s probably just because you seem so smart.

  • Despotic Guillotine 🔎👽🔍

There’s a very good chance I might be emailing you a pdf of the write up.

Depends on how much patience I allow myself.

  • Despotic Guillotine 🔎👽🔍

    You got instructions!?

I didn’t get no stinkin’ instructions!

    *Stomps foot and pouts*

  • For your login account? If you want sure.

  • Despotic Guillotine 🔎👽🔍

Lol, if I don’t take notes, I’ll write the damned thing, hit “send” or “post” or whatever you do in WordPress, and then remember three other things I wanted to cover.

  • DryButSoupy

December would be a good time to do “It’s a Wonderful Life” if each week wasn’t already booked.

  • DryButSoupy

Notes? Shit. I knew I was doing something wrong.

  • DryButSoupy

I’m a WordPress idiot, too. But the instructions I got emailed were simple enough to follow. You’ll be all good.

  • Despotic Guillotine 🔎👽🔍

Am I supposed to come up with a bio and a pic to go with and all that?

  • sailor monsoon

    Never apologize for awesome

  • Excellent!

  • Despotic Guillotine 🔎👽🔍
  • sailor monsoon

    You can do it!
If i can do this on my phone, you can do it!

  • Despotic Guillotine 🔎👽🔍

Even though I have no damned idea how WordPress works, lol. I clicked over there, stared at the screen, and thought, “Huh. I feel like a total dumbass right now.”

    XD

  • Despotic Guillotine 🔎👽🔍

I’ve got Lawrence of Arabia for Aug. 22 and am going through my notes before I watch it again tonight or tomorrow and then write the review.

  • sailor monsoon

    Thank you sir

  • Yup. I can do that for you.

  • sailor monsoon

The only thing I’ll need help on is the ability to click a link to read previous articles.
I can’t do it on my phone

  • sailor monsoon

I can split the two marx brothers movies up with you want but they’re so similar, I’m going to be repeating myself with two reviews

  • Your dates will probably change. General is still a go for two weeks from now or whatever it says above. Duck soup and opera can be one review I’ve decided. And King Kong will probably get moved early 2018.

  • I did modern times eons ago.

  • DontBeMeanInternet

    Perfect.

  • sailor monsoon

I could’ve sworn i had modern times and king Kong?
I just scrolled down and got my answer

  • November 7, 2017 is the date. Citizen Kane I have for December 26, 2017 (Rosebud themed I feel idk lol)

  • Duke

Great job on that AFI 100, you want to do anymore movies?

  • I set it for 3 pm.

  • Duke

    Whenever. 1PM would work good.

  • @DukeMyNameIs:disqus – What time should I have my article post tomorrow?

  • Duke

I have a feeling some of you guys might have forgotten about AFI 100 and when you’re up. So I decided to repost this so everyone can see when they are up.

  • Duke

    August 1: Schindler’s List | @seanLukeMcCard:disqus
August 8: The Sixth Sense |Mr. Splendiferous
August 15: Apocalypse Now (1979) | William Dhalgren

  • Duke

Bates Motel is the real deal! Season 5 better hurry up and get on DVD soon so I can finally finish the series!

  • Schizo_Frog

I’m going to do the AFI write up ASAP bc I am moving soon to a new city + new job and wont be around much in the fall! So I’ll get that AFI write up done very soon

  • sailor monsoon

    Righty-o el Capitan

  • Duke

Go ahead and lump them together.

  • Lydia Deetz

    It works.

  • sailor monsoon

They’re extremely similar so decided to lump them together
But it’s up to you chief

  • Duke

Potentially breaking the rules. Maybe I’ll schedule you for back to back weeks, and you can then do the second review and go “for a recap click to last weeks AFI 100”.

I’ll think about it. Maybe you can do both at once.

  • Duke

You said Nov 7 before. The unscheduled slot above is where African Queen used to be. I can switch it with someone else if that no longer works

  • sailor monsoon

    Righty-o.
But can i do a night at the opera and duck soup as one review?
Or is that breaking the rules?
I’m going to structure the review as a history of vaudeville and the marx brothers and it would seem redundant to cover the same ground twice

  • Lydia Deetz

    Did I say November?

  • Lydia Deetz
  • Duke

Whenever you want it to be man. Anyone who had a lot of picks I just put down there name for the majority of the spots so they can pick the movie they want to review.

  • Duke

Awesome! I was going to ask you on the Everything & Nothing if you were still down to do it!

  • DontBeMeanInternet

Or we can send you the contributor login.

  • Lydia Deetz

I’m still down for African Queen, I’ll just send the article to one of you Mods to post up when it’s finished.

  • DontBeMeanInternet

    And when is my Titanic?

  • DontBeMeanInternet

I’ll get my Citizen Kane AFI done next week (LOL) in case anyone misses a week in the future.

  • Duke

Don’t worry Sailor, here’s your picks along with the dates:

    The General – August 29, 2017

    A Night at the Opera – December 12, 2017

    Duck Soup – January 30, 2018

    The Gold Rush – April 17, 2018

    King Kong – June 5, 2018

  • sailor monsoon

    I could’ve sworn i picked 3 to do but now i don’t remember.
    Help me remember Duke!
