Matthew Robinson Hired to Write ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Sequel

Warner Bros. has hired Matthew Robinson (The Invention Of Lying) to develop a sequel to the 2014 science-fiction delight Edge of Tomorrow, Deadline reports.

Robinson apparently pitched a take that pleased WB. The plan is to bring back director Doug Liman and stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. Neither will sign on until they approve of the script. From there, Liman will develop the script with Robinson.

A sequel was originally announced back in 2016 with writers Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse. It ended up stalling, but let’s hope this new creative team will get the project moving forward. Edge of Tomorrow was a pleasant surprise back in 2014 and is still regarded by myself as one of my favorite films. If they can strike gold again, I’ll be the first in line to see it.

Edge of Tomorrow 2 (which for love of God I hope they don’t call Live. Die. Repeat. Repeat.) doesn’t have a release date, but with Cruise signing on for two more Mission: Impossible films, I wouldn’t expect until 2022/2023.
