Verne Troyer, best known for playing Mini-Me in the Austin Powers franchise, has died at the age of 49. He had been hospitalized earlier this month and had attended rehab in the past to be treated for alcoholism. No cause of death has been released yet.
Troyer got his start in Hollywood as a stunt double for infant Baby Bink in Baby’s Day Out. He continued to do stunt work and minor comedic roles for the next four years. In 1999, Troyer got his big break starring as Mini-Me in the Austin Powers sequel The Spy Who Shagged Me. He later reprised the role in 2002’s Austin Powers in Goldmember. He later re-teamed with Mike Myers for 2008’s The Love Guru. He also appeared frequently on television, making guest appearances on Celebrity Wife Swap, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, and Trailer Park Boys.
Since 2015, Troyer had run his own YouTube channel which had over 600 thousand subscribers at the time of his death. He was a frequent collaborator and friend of YouTube star Roman Atwood. His last video, focusing on Pet Peeves, was recently three weeks ago.
Rest in peace.
