I bet you’re thinking: Damn, I’d love a sequel to the underrated (some might say buried *wink wink Monsoon*) 2016 film The Nice Guys. Well, so would Shane Black.
In an interview with Fandango, Black talked about if he would be down to direct a sequel:
“In a heartbeat, if someone would pay for it… We had all kinds of ideas. The problem is it didn’t do that well at the box office. I imagine it will break even, which is not a formula for reacquiring two very expensive movie stars and proceeding with a sequel… I’m ready to go. If someone decided that it were enough of a cult hit to justify that, I’d be on it.”
The Nice Guys took in $56 million off a $50 million budget, which means it probably lost some money thanks to marketing. However, as Black noted, it’s entirely possible that a sequel could happen if there is a cult following attached to the original.
If all else fails, maybe The Predator will blow up the box office this fall and Warner Bros. will sign off on TNG2 right away. It’s either that or watching the contemporary gender swapped TV series based on the film that’s in development.
