After a long week at work, I decided to read War of the Realms #1, Marvel Comics’ big crossover event of 2019, written by Jason Aaron and art by Russell Dauterman.
Malekith the Dark Elf has laid waste to the Nine Realms that make up the World Tree. The only realm left standing is Midgard. As Malekith arrives to take control of Earth, it will take the combined might of Thor, the Avengers, and New York City’s finest superheroes to protect their world and put an end to Malekith’s evil machinations.
There are two deaths that occur during the course of this first issue that will have long lasting ramifications for the Marvel Universe. We won’t know what the effect these deaths will have until the conclusion of the miniseries.
There is an official War of the Realms song composed by Jimmy Urine (of Mindless Self Indulgence) that can be found here. You are supposed to read the comic and listen to the song (which I am going to have to do at some point this week.)
Included is a checklist of the first wave of tie ins to War of the Realms. I am definitely going to check out War Scrolls and the Punisher miniseries.
War of the Realms #1 is priced at $5.99 and is available now.
War of the Realms #2 will be released on April 17th, 2019.
