TriStar Pictures Set To Produce Alex Garland’s ‘The Toymaker’s Secret’, Garland’s Wife Paloma Baeza Will Direct

Hooray for Husband/Wife team ups!

Alex Garland has been one hell of a hot streak lately. Getting his start as a screenwriter in works like 28 Days Later and Sunshine while also proving he can direct films like Ex Machina and just recently Annihilation, he doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime soon. His next project, however, will just have him being exclusively writer and won’t even be a Sci-Fi film like he usually does. Instead, it’ll be a Kid’s film in fact! Varitey reports that Garland’s script for a story called The Toymaker’s Secret is set to be an original project to be directed by his wife Paloma Baeza, which will mark her first time at directing a full lengeth feature film (she’s done short films in the past, one of which staring Cillain Murphy but this’ll be her big debut). According to the article, it states that the film will be about:

“The Toymaker’s Secret” tells the story of an American family who moves into an old Victorian house in London and begins to believe it might be haunted.

Hannah Minghella, president of TriStar, had this to say on the project:

“‘The Toymaker’s Secret’ is an original movie with such heart and humor and magic that it is sure to become an instant classic for the whole family,” said Hannah Minghella, president, TriStar Pictures. “We are thrilled to be working with Paloma on her debut feature and with Alex and Andrew who are both long-time friends and creative partners.”

Meanwhile, Baez expressed equal enthusiasm:

“We couldn’t be more delighted to begin this adventure with TriStar. Hannah’s enthusiasm and insight are the perfect fit for an exciting collaboration,” said Baeza. “This project will join my love of animation with a live-action world, and it’s fantastic to be bringing this story to life.”

An interesting change of pace for Garland I must say. Fingers crossed his lovely lady can pull it off!
