Variety is reporting that director Gavin O’Connor (Warrior and The Accountant) is in negotiations to direct Warner Bros.’ new action-thriller Fast. The script, written by Taylor Sheridan (Sicario and Hell or High Water) follows a former special forces commando who’s recruited by the DEA to lead a black ops strike team targeting drug dealers who are protected by the CIA. (yeah, I’m sold)
Sheridan, had also been looking to direct, but a deal couldn’t be reached. The studio began looking for another director and landed on O’Connor since they already have a solid relationship after his previous action-thriller The Accountant was a surprise at the box office. The film brought in $86 million domestically on a $44 million budget. Chris Pratt had also been rumored to be circling the project, but with Sheridan no longer attached, his involvement is unknown.
A production start date is up in the air right now, since O’Connor is still in post-production on his upcoming sports drama Torrance starring former Batman, Ben Affleck. Most likely this would be his next project since he is only an executive producer on the Showtime series City on a Hill, and that is currently wrapping up its first season of filming.
If you haven’t seen any of the movies O’Conner and Sheridan have been involved in, do so quickly. They have been tied to some of the best movies to come out in recent years.
