What’s On The Grill? June 6th – June 13th

Welcome Exiles to this week’s  What’s On The Grill?, the weekl…er…occasional mini-review corner where we get to blast about whatever we’ve caught recently, feasted on with our eyes as some say.

On the grill this week: an 80’s dream horror, a throwback slasher that tries, along with a smart sci-fi thriller, a new show (for me at least) that was kind of a bore, and of course some fun from the ‘tubes. Enjoy!

Dreamscape (1984)

“A young psychic on the run from himself is recruited by a government agency experimenting with the use of the dream-sharing technology and is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of the U.S. president.”

2.5/5-Didn’t age well and worked much better for me when I was a kid especially the Snake Man. Hey Norm! Wish I hadn’t revisited this.

Billy Club (2013)

“Fifteen years after a gruesome triple homicide devastated their Little League baseball team, four friends reunite to commemorate their dead coach and fallen teammates. A mystery unfolds as the secrets from their past return to haunt them and a vengeful killer, hidden by an antique umpire’s mask, returns to even the score.”

2/5-  Have you thought that the slasher genre was missing another sports killer icon? Well you are in luck with Billy Club. Exactly what you would expect from an indy kickstarter baseball slasher film.

Coherence (2013)

“Strange things begin to happen when a group of friends gather for a dinner party on an evening when a comet is passing overhead.”

3/5- I can appreciate what they were able to do with limited resources and budget. Smart script and raises some fun possibilities but just didn’t click with me.  They got freaked out way to easy before anything really happened. No likable characters to even care about why all this stuff is happening. Just seemed like a long Twilight Zone episode.

TV watched-

Arrested Development-Season 1. So after putting this off well forever, I finally broke down and decided to watch. I just don’t get all the love. I chuckled a few times, that’s about it. I’m not a Bateman and don’t find him funny at all. I’ll continue to watch to see if anything changes.

Smallville– Finished Season 9.

From the ‘tubes
