According to Variety, Will Smith won’t be returning to get jiggy in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sequel.
Apparently, scheduling conflicts are the primary reason for Smith dropping out. Smith played Deadshot, a crack shot assassin, in the critically panned yet financially successful first installment. The split is said to have been “amicable.” It is unknown at this point whether the role of Deadshot will be recast or dropped from the sequel altogether.
Writer and director James Gunn anticipates a fall start for production. The release date has been set for August 6, 2021.
