‘Your Name’ finally coming to home video this November

Break out your tissues (and wallets) everybody.

Makoto Shinkai’s animated monster hit Your Name hit shores this year to critical acclaim after enjoying a very healthy run both in its native country and elsewhere and after much deliberation, Funimation has finally announced when the film is getting a DVD/Blu-Ray release in the states. Mark your calendars down for November 7th to pick up this example of masterclass animation and storytelling. And in typical fashion for the distribution house, they’re offering two releases: A standard combo pack and a more deluxe release for those who want to spend a little more cheddar than sensible human beings would allow. The details are as follows (source here):

The #1 most successful anime film of all time is finally coming to home video. We know a lot of you have been wondering when this would finally go up for pre-order–we are releasing the movie on November 7, less than 4 months after the Japanese release, which is an extremely rare turn time in this industry.

Two releases:

  • Standard Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack

  • Limited Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack

    • Two-piece collectible chipboard box with rainbow holographic finish, featuring the star-crossed lovers Taki and Mitsuha

    • Your Name. 2-disc original soundtrack by RADWIMPS, with English and Japanese versions

    • 60-page hardcover art book

    • Art digipack

    • Blu-ray + DVD of the film and 59 minutes of extras.

    • your name.: Interview with Makoto Shinkai

    • Makoto Shinkai Filmography

    • Special TV Program

    • Trailers

As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, Your Name is easily my favorite film of the year so far. A genuine spectacle of emotion and color, with some real curve balls thrown in that I bet even somebody like Shyamalan wouldn’t guess. I won’t hesitate to get this the moment it comes out, though as much as I love the film, I think I’ll settle on a standard copy instead of the limited edition. Either way, I’m more than happy to shell out the cash for this well deserved and successful piece of cinema.
