It looks like Disney‘s next live-action remake of a beloved animated classic is gearing up to begin shooting. Disney Film Facts is reporting that filming for The Sword and the Stone will begin on September 24, 2018. It will begin in Belfast, Ireland, at presumably Titanic Studios, home to productions like Game of Thrones and Krypton.
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (now there is a name!) is attached to direct from a script by Bryan Cogman. The film is expected to be one of the first exclusives to hit Disney’s upcoming streaming service next year (alongside a High Fidelity TV series).
I know these updated classics are not for everyone, but I have been enjoying them for the most part. The Jungle Book was a huge delight, and Beauty and the Beast managed to add more to the original film (even if it wasn’t always for the best). The next few years will see The Lion King, Mulan, Aladdin, and The Lady and the Tramp receive the same cinematic live-action/CGI treatment. And here I am still waiting for my damn Rescuers remake!
The Sword and the Stone is expected to premiere on Disney’s upcoming streaming service in 2019. With production set to begin in the next few months, we will keep you updated on any casting information.
